'15 JUCO CB Justin Martin (UT Signee 2/4/15)

Has new film on Rivals. Two things really stand out.

1. A lot more physical than I thought. Tackles well and has really long arms. Gets good bumps off the line and even lit up a ball carrier or two. Thats big because physicality is the one thing a lot of people thought he lacked.

2. He could really boost our return game. He is fast fast fast.

Also he really looks the part. Tall, rangy and turns well.

Some actually thought he was the best overall athlete in the state of Tennessee last year, even more than Hurd and Malone. He will be a great get if he gets everything finished.

Is he waiting to see if he will qualify before he commits?

Please correct me if I am wrong. Martin did not complete high school and therefore he must get an associates degree prior to enrolling in an SEC school.

If he is unable to enroll in the summer semester and is pushed back to the fall, would he count against the '16 class. Also, have not seen if he has taken a visit and if he has not, could he potentially be a candidate for the elusive blue shirt?

Don't quote me on this but I think there is a loophole that if Martin, because he has a GED and not a high school diploma, gets his associate's degree that he would count as a transfer and only count against the 85 roster allotment and not the 25 man signing class limit.

Again I'm not 100 percent sure on that so don't hold me to it but it would explain why he's no official scheduled.

If this is the deal, Butch hit it out of the park.

With Dobbs now in control of the offense and and an O-line coming back with experience - all that is left to lock down is the secondary on D. Adding Justin on the other side of Cam does the job. Happy times ahead.

Consider yourself quoted. This better be true. :)

Just my opinion, but Martin is #1 on the defensive board at this point for the 2015 class. He would give us the lockdown corner opposite Cam Sutton.

My only question on your scenarion would be that if he would be counted as a transfer, does he have to sit out a year? If he is a transfer, that would mean he would count on the 2016 class numbers, which brings that class total down even further.

I don't see why the GED aspect ultimately should make a difference in Justin's recruitment status. To the best of my knowledge, he should still enter in the same status as any other JUCO, i.e. a graduate with associates degree in hand. However, he will have four years to play three since he began his college academic career in January 2014 and will graduate in time to enroll at UT in fall of 2015, thus having previously used only one year of eligibility.

He most definitely should not fall under the restrictions of transfer rules.

For a transfer from a 2 year school to a 4 year Division I school, you must complete at least one semester or quarter as a full-time student (Summer school does not count), earn an average of 12-semester or 12-quarter transferable-degree credit hours for each term you attended full time at the two-year school, and earn a GPA of 2.500 in those transferable credit hours. If you meet each of those criteria, you may play immediately during the first year after you transfer.

He's talented, but simmer down a little bit. Players like Cam are very rare. Lets see him at least practice against SEC players before we label him "lockdown"

Von Pearson had some CP like expectations around here, and while he has been good, CP, he is not yet
