Right, my point was he came from BEHIND him and caught him, which means he ran faster. I realize that sometimes DBs start from ahead and meet them, but Hurd got chased from behind on a long play, which was the original post.
What????? You know they practice angles for reasons right?
Kid was two steps behind not like he made up 5 yards or something. I tell you the truth.

The problem isn't that he can't perform simple math. Obviously we all understand what you're saying.
Hurd stiff arms an OU linebacker, slowing him down slightly near the Tennessee 40 yard line.
Eventual tackler is at UT 44 yard line running full speed.
At this point in time Hurd is running almost East-West, and doesn't get north-south until fully out of the stiff arm move. When he does so at the 45 yard line, the defender is still running full speed at the 46.
The defender manages to catch him (barely) even though he had at minimum a 1 yard advantage on Hurd. I suspect if Hurd didn't lose his speed on the stiff arm he would have pulled away from the defender for a TD. He has excellent top end speed.
In your math scenario, 2 points meeting at an 'x' don't have directional changes, stiff arms, or the ability to maintain speed while diving ahead to catch the guy that just ran by you.
our fans are the worst. they will be negative about anyone and anything.
I checked out the "Let's talk about Hurd" thread in the football forum. It was really sad, instead of talking about his performance they were complaining about him getting caught and "not having an extra gear" some even said he doesn't have SEC speed.
Then it turned into an argument about angles and became clear that nobody can stand to lose an argument on the internet with people they don't know about something that doesn't matter.
Also why would I even read that? That's the question that needs to be answered not Hurd's speed.
To be clear, I'm not in the camp who thinks Hurd isn't great. I think he's amazing. I was just a little surprised he got caught from behind on two plays. I wouldn't trade him for any other freshmen back in the country.
The other guy had to run farther laterally than Hurd. Maybe Hurd was slowed down, but at one point (45yd line) he was a step or two ahead vertically and the guy made up those steps and came over 3 yards laterally to make the play.
So, mathematically, the guy did run faster than Hurd, because the defender started farther from the sideline and at one point was a step or two behind.
I agree Hurd probably wasn't going full speed yet, which surprised me because he was heralded as a 4.3 guy, and they gain top speed VERY fast. Which is what the OP was all about.
