Wanna go practice karate in the garage?

Yep!

Thanks Max! I asked this in another thread but do these late additions even affect the ranking at this point? And I agree we need game changing players to win games that is of the upmost importance - I just also want to finish strong with a high rated class and 2 star and 3 star additions make me have to ask that. I appreciate you!!

i honestly know we desperately need some offensive playmakers and blockers. but, from a leadership standpoint. would you rather be stocked at DL? with a Maggitt type player who is a leader for your team? i dunno. only the coaches know that firsthand; but on the outside looking in it certainly seems questionable.

even in 2016 we willbe still rebuilding. this team was so decimated by idiocy at the helm. it was a rebuilding project, and were right on cue. my pt is it certainly seems like a win for now move, versus a logical win for later.

Eh, that's a position we are stacked at and would run into the same situation we did this year with one of them transferring out. Camion has 2 to play 3. The Vanderbilt game shows why we need more depth at WR.

It doesn't matter when a recruit is added.... The 20 highest rated is what will count as far as the ranking goes. For instance, if your 20th higest rated player was a 3 star and you sign another 4 star, then that 4 star replaces the 3 star in the calculations.

I doubt PWill will contribute much year one, but Cam will come in looking to knock heads. He knows the pressure coming from our home town, all of the guys who could play SEC ball but couldn't get academics in order.

He wants to represent his home town, and his home state of Tennessee. He also bleeds orange through and through. These are the kids we need to help turn this around. Local flavor will only make it that much sweeter.

If he commits, maybe this is a message to Malone. I can see this guy start over Malone next year, if Malone doesn't step up. Dude is legit but so was Malone coming out of HS and at the O/W game.

So you send a 4star DE with a 4.3 GPA packing to sign a WR with a past of major academic issues among others.
Brilliant. Butch doesn't get it.

By simply assuming that this is how it went down is ridiculous. Do you not have any more faith in CBJ than that?

And what's the "among others" crap you're spewing? I have it on the absolute best authority to tell you that you have no CLUE what you're talking about.

I don't think one has anything to do with the other. I have a feeling Malone will really come into his own now that he knows how to approach the off season.

I would argue that, now, we ARE stocked at DE.

Current roster:
Barnett
D mixon
L Lewis
Jakob Johnson (possibly)
Maggitt
Vereen

EEs:
Butcher
Phillips

2015:
D Taylor

9 D-ends is not bad depth. I'm not including DTs in any of this... but we obviously improved that with this recruiting class as well.

Is he still just rated a 2 star or has it been bumped? Will that greatly hurt our final rank also? I know he is a great athlete but I guess I am a bit of a star gazer lol!

Hey. Bit of a long post coming. Hopefully it's mostly helpful to you and not just things you already know.

In a lot of cases, you'll find that offer lists paint a more accurate picture than the ranking on a recruiting service. If a kid is rated low but has offers from schools like Bama, LSU, Auburn and (recently) Ole Miss, then chances are good that he's better than his ranking. Camion Patrick is exactly that kind of case. Then there are other times when a kid is rated a 4* but his best offer is Indiana or Memphis. That's typically a sign that the services have missed in the other direction - or perhaps an indicator of off-field red flags like grades.

Even then, we've seen signs that Butch Jones is a good evaluator of talent and is capable of finding SEC-caliber players that other coaches and recruiting services just haven't noticed yet. Chris Weatherd and Emmanuel Moseley last year were unknowns when Butch picked them up. Moseley started games for us this year and played pretty well for a freshman, and Weatherd ended up as a 4* who had several very good programs trying to flip him down the stretch and also contributed on the field this year.

Also, keep in mind that a lot of politics go into the rankings on these sites. Kids can get boosted or dropped by a particular service just based on which camp or all-american game they go to, for example.

So don't sweat the rankings too much. I'm not saying recruiting services are useless, but they do make mistakes and oversights, and just counting the number of stars next to a player's name is a good way to miss important information.

Not to mention we have a shot with Tega, and Gooden for next year. I think we will be fine.

Brilliant. Butch doesn't get it.

So if you sign 5 4star DEs with a 4.3 GPA packing to sign a WR that is an issue? When we already have 6 DE's on the team?

You don't get it.
