'15 MD OT Pat Allen

CBJ found him and recruited him independent of Mahoney. Fisher redshirted, then Butch went to Cincy. If one redshirt year with a 1st rounder is the tallest feather in your cap, that's a sad cap.

Fisher is not the only "diamond-in-the-rough" recruiting coup feather in Butch's cap. Of the six offensive tackles voted to the 2013 Pro Bowl, one was Joe Staley, again a "2-star tight end from Central Michigan. . . . Jones recruited Staley to Central Michigan. He was the one to bring Fisher, then an agile 242-pound high school football/basketball standout to CMU a few years later before Jones moved on to Cincinnati. . . .Staley, an All-Pro the past two seasons [2011, 2012] for the 49ers, has provided quite an example for Fisher, other aspiring linemen and college recruiters, too. Jones says Fisher was a 225-pound tight end/track standout when they recruited him to CMU. But like Fisher, Staley had a great frame and a lot of grit. Staley actually caught 11 passes as a freshman at CMU before Jones told him they wanted to move him to the O-line. "He went into a little depression for a couple of days," Jones said, "but we told him down the road, you'll thank us."

. . . . Jones also struck gold on another unheralded project while at Cincy, in Eric Lefeld, a former 240-pound two-star defensive end prospect, also a former basketball player, who blossomed into being a First-Team All Big East offensive tackle as a 6-foot-6, 287-pound sophomore in 2012 and is now on the NFL's radar." See Projecting OTs is a tricky business - CBSSports.com.

Finally, do you know who was a freshman tight end on the same 2007 Butch Jones-coached CMU team for which Antonio Brown caught 102 passes for 1003 yards and 6 touchdowns?

Answer: "Regarded as a two-star recruit by Rivals.com, [J.J.] Watt was neither ranked among the top tight end nor defensive end prospects in his class. He was, however, the No. 7 rated prospect out of the state of Wisconsin. After official visits to Central Michigan, Colorado, and Minnesota, Watt chose to play for Central Michigan. . . . [H]e played for the Central Michigan Chippewas football team for one year in 2007. While there, he played tight end and caught eight passes for 77 yards. Frustrated by his lack of direction at Central Michigan, he transferred to Wisconsin" (J. J. Watt - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia).

He would have won himself a Heisman at a Power 5 school.

For those who would question the frequency with which Butch would like to use the quarterback as a running threat, here are the career stats for Dan Lefevour, who quarterbacked CMU throughout Antonio Brown's career: 1171-1763 (66.4%) passing for 12,905 yds. and 102 touchdowns, with 36 interceptions. On the ground, Lefevour amassed another 2,948 yards and 48 touchdowns on 671 carries (4.4 ypc).

In 2007 alone, he passed for 3652 yds, and 27 touchdowns and ran for 1122 yds. (6.0 ypc) and 19 more six-pointers. Almost 4800 yards of total offense and 46 touchdowns; those truly are Heisman-caliber numbers. Dan Lefevour Stats | College Football at Sports-Reference.com.

Yeah, I think LeFevour's stats were better than Tebow's that year. 2007 was Tebow's Heisman year.

Those articles just made me wish we had held on to Dylan Jackson.

It was his choice. He was HE)) BENT to play defense and would not entertain the idea of OL. We have better players recruited anyway for DL. It is his loss not ours. Wish him the best playing for the Stanford but we are tight for spaces anyway so he needed to go. We need to recruit the best to be the best.

Callahan CB'd to the Dawgs this morning... :cray:

Wanted two quality OTs. Allen was the game ready of the remaining targets in my opinion. Oh well.
