Or he also feels very good about his #2 and realizing he is being slow played does not sit well with him or his family. UT means a lot to us being UT fans. We may be willing to sit back and HOPE our long time favorite school would take us down the road. Recruits with a lot of options not so much. Slow playing top talent will lose you a lot of top talent. It's just the way it is.

You can't land the best of the best if you don't wait on them. When you are leading for 2 5* DTs and the best JUCO DT, then you wait on them. Maybe we only want to sign three DTs this class. If so, then Sterling is committing to someone else tonight. If he does commit to us, then I believe that tells us loud and clear that we are taking four DTs this cycle.
DT is the 2nd most important position on an SEC football team behind QB. Whereas typically only one QB plays, most teams have a 6 man DT rotation. Our shelves are stocked with young talent at most spots. You never turn away a talented DT even if it means taking 4 or 5 of them in a class. Lots of DT's red shirt or become injured or leave early if everything goes great. DT is a position that you will rob from other positions to stock up IMHO.

No offense man but this is patently ridiculous and I'm not sure you really have any for-sure way to prove its happening other than mere speculation with Marquell Harrell. It's Butch Jones' job to take the commitments of the very best talent he can secure, based on him and his staff's evaluations. While it's theoretically conceivable that slow playing certain kids may result in a loss of their commitment, it is 100% absolutely guaranteed that Jones not bringing in the very best talent he can secure will eventually result in a loss of his job. I feel pretty confident saying that's not something he wants to happen.
I'm not saying Johnson is some borderline talent; he's a good player. But the fact that we're in on bigger talents that the staff prefers more should tell you that unlike Dooley, Jones isn't going to settle for kids just because they want to commit now (if that is indeed the case). He's going after the best ones we can possibly get, because Tennessee has to win now, on the field and in recruiting, if we want to have any shot to reclaim the SEC East throne.
Besides...what would you have him do if he took Sterling's commitment now and then a better kid wanted in down the road? Cut Sterling loose then, after being committed for several months (because we all know that would really grind your gears), or just do the professional thing and not take his commitment in the first place? He has to do what's best for Tennessee. That's his job and I expect him to do it.
