'15 NC DT Sterling Johnson

I can't believe this guy is a question mark for our staff right now (if true). You have to take him.

He has been on campus. He has pics with him, butcher and ude in jerseys in locker room. I wouldn't see us passing on a DT with large potential and in a state that we have worked hard in to recreate the pipeline that once existed... Who knows though

Would I take this kid today(if he were willing to shut it down) and wait to see if there is room to take a 3rd DT closer to NSD? Yes I would.

McKenzie and Johnson as the DTs this year would be fine by me. HS kids with a lot of time to develop and get better.

Bird in the hand...

DJ is no guarantee, get 3 HS DT in the fold if you can and make room for DJ if you can get him. DT are so rare, we have youth at pretty much every other position. I think even if 15 was our limit 4 DT would still be a smart move.

Mosley Roberson Barnett could all end up somewhere other than DT.

But Johnson may have passed on UT. We may have had him in a holding pattern and he decided to go elsewhere.

I just hope this doesn't come to bite UT in the ass.

Look, based on last year's performance I'm still not quite sure if I trust Butch on the sidelines....but after the 2014 class and who he's gotten committed/is in on thus far for '15, I trust him 1000% in recruiting... not worried at all...Butch, Thig and the boys got this.

Did we pull any high school, true DT last year? Barnett is kind of a tweeter, and we got Owen, but would be huge to get a true HS DT this early with Mckenzie looking hopeful. Aren't that many HS DT out there.

I wouldn't consider Barnett a "tweener."

He is 6'3" 280 prior to enrolling. Daniel Hood was 255-260 at that age and Malik Jackson was 215. I think Barnett will player between 290-300 his entire career.

Asked of Ryan Callahan:

Prediction for tonight's commitment?

Yeah, I'm not sure where he might end up going if he's committing tonight. I'm still looking into it. I would be a bit surprised if Tennessee takes him right now.

Is Johnson lower on the board or are there specific concerns?

I think it's a little of both. Johnson just isn't all that high on Tennessee's board right now. I think he'll probably need to go to one of the Vols' camps if he wants to improve his stock.

It just doesn't make sense. He named UT the leader and wanted to wait awhile to commit but now all of a sudden is going to commit somewhere but UT won't take him? If that were true, that UT won't take him now, why commit so suddenly? A spite commit?

Or he also feels very good about his #2 and realizing he is being slow played does not sit well with him or his family. UT means a lot to us being UT fans. We may be willing to sit back and HOPE our long time favorite school would take us down the road. Recruits with a lot of options not so much. Slow playing top talent will lose you a lot of top talent. It's just the way it is.
