'15 NC RB Johnny Frasier

Not if a player is truly elite. Coaches will make room.
We like to THINK that, but that ain't how it usually goes down. Just look at the QB position. Sometimes you just take the best you can get, when the getting is good, and move on....to filling other needs.

Players like this will find more and more teams having a crowded number of RB's already on the commitment list...and look elsewhere. He and Bryce Love will look at the # of commitments we already have at RB (Reid and Kamara) and see that we are done at RB.

It's kind of like Sweat. CBJ and staff probably won't wait for him to make up his mind later in the season. They will likely take Phillips and be done at DE.

I disagree with all of this

Gibson is arguably not even a QB. Bad comparison.

Frasier is an elite RB. Someone would be asked to look elsewhere, and that player would land firmly on their feet elsewhere. It's part of recruiting. If the better player wants on board, you take that player. It's nothing personal, it's about getting better.

And Sweat is a take no matter what. Simple as that. You mean to tell me we wouldn't take a top 5 player in the country? Please.

Church.

Frasier's offer list is certainly elite.

You know....offer lists are not something I look at as much anymore.

I mean a kid can say he has an offer, but would he be a take?

I mean, a kid may have offers from every major program, but I'd be interested to know how many would actually take him. That to me is more telling than anything.

Now obviously, offer lists are good for when a kid doesn't have a lot of suitors. That's a nice indicator of when the talent isn't there (Unless we get them, then they're a diamond in the rough). But, when kids have a ton of "offers" I'm still kind of skeptical, because we've thrown out a ton of "offers" to kids that we have no intention of taking if they want to jump on board.

Well if there is one team that knows RB talent, it's Alabama. Saban wants Frazier. That's enough for me.

Offer lists are about meaningless now a days. Kids claim offers they don't actually have. Coaches extend offers that they know they would not honor if the kid tried to commit.

That's why you don't just judge by offer lists. Same as star gazing. Recruiting is the bigger picture. I do understand a lot of meaningless offers are out there though, but there are many more options out there to look at.

Why are there so many great backs coming out of NC lately? Or has that always been the case?

So basically if I understand the recruiting forum and this discussion:

You can't look at stars too much you need to look at offers.
You can't look at offers too much you need to consider stars.
Actually forget both of those, use the eye test.
No wait, no one on here is actually a scout, you can't trust your eyes.
Actually, just have blind faith in Butch since none of us know anything.
Wait, don't do that, remember the Dooley years.

Yeah. Recruiting is such an exact science.

Good summary. Just throw in...

He is a take no matter what.
Wait, we don't have the numbers to take players no matter what.

Also, a "Later Rednecks" and we are caught up. :)

I always love the "later rednecks." I also love that we have a whole "thread" dedicated to "numbers." Of course calling it a serious conversation is a slippery slope.

I see you are also an Indiana fan. I don't frequent any Indiana football recruiting forums but I imagine they would look something like this:

Every possible athlete is a take.
If he's 2* or better, we're gonna make room.
Ohio State offered? K, next thread.
Do we still play football?
Please shoot me, I'm following Indiana football recruiting.

So at least there are SOME positives on VolNation. I.e., we actually have a real football team, unlike my other unfortunate school.

Yes. And typically, VN threads go something like this:

Poster asks question or makes statement expecting serious answers.
Someone makes really funny sarcastic remark, gets 47 likes.
Six people try to make the same joke, but didn't get it in time, get no likes.
Finally, someone answers the question.
12 people blast the people for their serious answer
Someone jumps in with a political correct comment
Terrypedigo spews an incoherent drunken 152 word run-on sentence that has nothing to do with the question.
LebVol makes a statement about numbers
Ron Swanson posts a link where he automatically gets 12 likes, because he's the man.
Skeeter makes a drive by shooting of great, possibly positive news (Skeeter now replaced by matt40412 or Go Fight Win or Vol74)
Good news = Kate Upton gifs
Finally, the whole thread ends up merged into the Torrance Gibson thread, and nobody really answered the original question, but Torrance Gibson is a WR Vol commit who has character issues and yet isn't a take.
End thread.

And...you're caught up.

Feel free to use the terms and phrases:
Valid Victorian
Pocket Presents
Fast-Twitch
Thig' Gon Thig'
Butch gets it

And recruiting math is basically:
However many 5* there are threads for + the number of 4*'s interested in UT + the 2* that nobody picked up on = The number of spots that UT will take. Even if that number is 46 on a 85 man roster. Doesn't matter.

If you want to start a fight, simply do the following:
Start talking about black uniforms.
Start debating about whether Fulmer should have been fired.
Start debating about whether or not Devrin Young should have been offered.
Argue for the "Woo" in Rocky Top

AND DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES WRITE A RECRUIT A LOVE LETTER BEGGING THEM TO COME TO UT.

This is a brief synopsis of what I have learned in my years of Volnation. And I have enjoyed every single second. This site is the best site on the internet, bar none.

Oh, and also.

Booming is good.

Pre-booming can be a jinx.

After booming is fine too.

Lots of booming when commits happen. Gifs welcome. But not stupid ones.

When in doubt, the Kermit gif works for all occasions.

Or, anything involving female chest parts. Those are good too.

Add in Catbone saying something negative and you have a damn true post.
