I would agree with you if these outliers were not happening every year. Every year, all around the country there are players who play well beyond their star ranking. Elite school offers are a best guess on whether or not a recruit has big time potential. It is not stated fact. If that were the case then every 4* and 5* star guys would turn out to be deserving of their ranking. That is not the case.

An offer list only means that a player has impressed the coaches enough to see possible future potential. That alone however does not mean that player is going to be successful. It also does not mean that a player who has little to know offers cannot become superstars. I really don't see how this is confusing. Sorry but like I said offer lists do not make the player. Hard work, talent and coaching does.

I agree that offer lists shouldn't be overly determinate because there are a lot of variables that go into "elite" schools offer lists. What positions do they need? What's their recruiting base? Texas A&M offers 1/3rd the number of players we offer because they have a rich base. Alabama, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Auburn, maybe about half the offers that we send out. We put out 295 offers in 2014 which was most in the SEC and we're on top right now with 242 for the 2015 class. We have to cast a wider net because our local base is much smaller than some of our competitors.

According to Rivals (247 for Mixon who isn't listed on rivals):
Elliott Berry and Josh Malone led our 2014 class with 11 offers each from SEC schools. McDowell had 10 SEC offers.
Nine: none
Eight: Barnett, Evan Berry, Hurd, Kelly
Seven: Bates, Bryant
Six: Blair, Gaulden, Hendrix, Mosley, Payne, Raulerson, Sawyers
Five: Scott
Four: Helm, Henderson, Paulk, Wharton
Three: Mixon, Weatherd, Wolf
Two: Medley, Robertson
One (Tennessee): Creamer, Johnson, Moseley, Pearson, Thomas, Williams

I'm expecting really great things from Elliott. :)

Pretty interesting. Although I'm fairly confident we had about 20 guys in our class who could have gotten offers from all 14 schools if they had showed interest in those schools.

I agree. I just used the SEC because while there might be some arguments as to which schools are elite there is no argument which conference sits at the top. If, however, one put together an "elite" list of say the top 25% of schools in each of the power conferences then our list would look a lot stronger. We have to, as noted, cast a wider net and therefore some of our guys are elite talents that are coming from the bases of the other elite programs around the country. We just don't have a lot of SEC competition for those guys because that SEC competition has the homegrown edge.

We could probably even name New Mexico an honorary state. Or atleast make it a territory like Puerto Rico.

Was stationed at Kirtland in Albuquerque...pleasant experience

Indiana V. New Mexico. Which is least valuable? New Mexico gave us the setting for Breaking Bad, one of the best shows of all time, so see ya Indiana!

Yeah let me and Glich get our families out and you can have the state. Your argument sold me , screw Indiana, Viva New Mexico

Why don't we take out someplace nobody needs like Idaho or Alabama.

Bro, you don't like French Fries, Baked Potatoes, or Potato Salad?!!??
Alabama, no brainer, plus when a zombie disease breaks out, I'm heading for Idaho, Montana or the Dakotas, definitely if I cant make it to Alaska or some Saskatchewan province

World War Z style. We'll bait all the zombies to Bama and then peace out to somewhere too cold for zombies.

Does Gentry realize that the future of his entire state rides on his decision? And would telling him so be an NCAA violation?

Hopefully, someone will remind Gentry of how Kiffin influenced the career of Matt Barkley. Zach needs to ask Kiffin to see Barkley's Heisman and NC trophies.
