'15 TN ATH Jauan Jennings (UT commit 4/7/14)

He just looked so far behind in the passing game to me when you compare him to Dormady. I haven't seen Jones but several national guys swear by him. That's two really tough guys to beat out. Then JG is coming in with a tool set that is better than all 3 guys. Then you consider we may land the #1 QB in both the 2017 and 2018 classes that are very polished for such a young age. I just think he would be wasting valuable practice time trying to prove he is a QB when he could really step up and make an immediate impact at WR. he reminds me of Malone physically and athletically but with that tougher mindset that Z is trying so hard to instill in Malone

Jones is just as athletic as Jennings. Kid has alot of talent.

I've wondered if the coaches would use JJ this season if Dobbs went down. Split QB system with him and QD. Pass more with QD, run more with JJ, but have enough of the opposite plays for both to keep defenses honest.

I think it could work if the unthinkable happens.

I personally doubt this. I think you might as well have Hurd run the wildcat, because J.J. did not do well passing in the spring game. I don't think you will risk it, and most teams will not buy into him passing the ball. I doubt you gain much benefit this season by putting him in, unless you have no other choice.

I am not saying this lightly; I like JJ and hope the best for him!

QD is more athletic than people want to give him credit for. no he isn't on JJs level but could still do wonders in this offense (assuming he ever gets a chance)

Based on highlights I think Jennings is in another level athletically from Jones and that's not taking anything from Jones. Jennings is an elite level athlete. The way I view the 3 freshman QBs is Q is the clear better passer. Jennings is the clear better athlete. Jones is the mixture. He doesn't look as polished throwing as Q but much better than JJ. He isn't as fast JJ but faster than Q. Jones also comes off to me as a big time leader people rally around.

I am really looking forward to hearing about the backup QB battle this summer and into the fall. It could be a fierce one

You guys are crazy if you can watch the spring game and honestly think anyone but Q will be the backup this fall. If Jones is good enough to come in fresh off the plane with no spring camp, no lifting, and no playbook study and beat out Q then he's probably just as good or better than Dobbs and will challenge him for the starting spot.

Dobbs ran a lot last season because the O-line was total slaw and our passing attack was inconsistent. Worley always got crapped on for never running, but if the offense had been able to reliably complete downfield passes then he wouldn't have had to run at all because the threat of the pass would have opened up the running game. See how that works? Dobbs' downfield passing could definitely use some work as well, but the threat of him taking off was enough to compensate for what he lacked as a passer and achieved essentially the same effect.

TL;DR: A running QB is a nice luxury to have, but not essential to have success with this offense. Q will be just fine as the backup this fall, and furthermore, don't be surprised to see Josh run less this season and even less his senior year.

Well, statistically, we should expect about 25-30% attrition in the next year or so with this incoming class. That would be in the neighborhood of 7-9 players leaving for whatever reason or never being able to enroll in the first place. Maybe it's about to get started.
