'15 TN ATH Jauan Jennings (UT commit 4/7/14)

We will see what comes out now that he will do his acclimation period. I do expect him to come along slowly. They will probably target SEC play with him

i know Butch said he was about 85% but that was also about a month ago it seems. Im sure they will take it easy. If you can get him and croom back in a few weeks it will be a huge plus. I could also see a Redshirt. Who knows though...

I just don't see Preston allowing a redshirt. His personality is the type to explode if redshirted. He is too talented not to play even if it's only a few games. If we are in a deep run and you got a Preston Williams ready to go then you have to play him down the stretch.

i have no idea. I dont know him. Will be interesting for sure. Obviously would love him to be out there if he can.

I think the WR depth concerns are telling about that staff's intentions. Only way P Willy redshirts is if he can't physically go all year long.

I know PW mentioned not redshirting during his recruitment, but I would not expect anything less from any recruit in that situation. This notion that his personality won't allow it may be a little overblown. If the health staff says he isn't ready then he isn't ready. I think PW will sit out and take redshirt year like a man, if they say he isn't healthy enough. A transfer would put him two years behind.

The right move is to redshirt him

You don't have to make this decision right now. If he hasn't played by the end of the season? He was redshirted.

Exactly. Why would any sane person EVER rule out Preston playing this year if there is any chance that he could be fully healthy and ready to go? Hell, even if he only makes it back for the bowl game, you suit him up and line him up. A player like him could make a difference. And, as EVERYBODY has said, the longest he will likely be here is four years, and it may only be three. Redshirting him provides almost zero chance of having him for an extra year, and committing yourself to redshirting him know provides a non-negligigle chance that we lose out on production from a talented player.

Well said. I call it trying to steal a season. Rarely works with rare talents.

I promise if he gained 100 pounds, he would freaking dominate.

Y'all doubted old volatil when I went on and on about this kids abilities and work ethic.

He's a special athlete.

You went on and on about Jennings being a QB... literally said "QB" every time someone mentioned his name.

I don't think anyone on VN was unsure of his athletic ability. Glad he found his spot.

How come? You only redshirt a guy if he isn't ready to play. Either from injury or undeveloped skills. I think we can all agree Preston is skilled enough to play as a true freshmen. The only question left is health. As of right now, there is no reason to believe he won't be ready to contribute at least by the tail end of the season.

Why would you hold out an elite talent that is ready to go in October/November? A redshirt does nothing for guys like Preston Wiliams. He's projected to be a high caliber player. Those guys don't hang around for 5 years. At best you're hoping he stays 4. If he's only gonna be here 4 years, might as well play him all 4.

Also if he can contibute and help us win, why would you not want him out there. Every win is critical right now for a program like ours that needs to show we're moving in the right direction to keep attracting elite recruits.

I'm really glad he chose to go to spot where he could play and help the team. As for my "QB" posts, VN always said as soon as he signed Butch would move him to Safety. He was adamant that he was a QB. He didn't give schools a look that weren't recruiting him at another position. Alabama came after him hard. 3 schools said he was a QB... UT, OSU, and Auburn.

I'm thrilled he's a WR but if we hadn't recruited a "QB" he'd be in Auburn right now

If he was at Auburn he would already be ranked in the top 10 best players in the conference.
