'15 TN ATH Jauan Jennings (UT commit 4/7/14)

If there is a unit that we overwork it's WRs. Unfortunately not much you can do if you want to run a high tempo offense. Ability to rotate guys helps a ton. Our problem they can't seem to stay healthy enough to keep a rotation

How come? You only redshirt a guy if he isn't ready to play. Either from injury or undeveloped skills. I think we can all agree Preston is skilled enough to play as a true freshmen. The only question left is health. As of right now, there is no reason to believe he won't be ready to contribute at least by the tail end of the season.

Why would you hold out an elite talent that is ready to go in October/November? A redshirt does nothing for guys like Preston Wiliams. He's projected to be a high caliber player. Those guys don't hang around for 5 years. At best you're hoping he stays 4. If he's only gonna be here 4 years, might as well play him all 4.

Also if he can contibute and help us win, why would you not want him out there. Every win is critical right now for a program like ours that needs to show we're moving in the right direction to keep attracting elite recruits.
He can't cut. No need to rush him... We also have some pretty good players ahead him already... Why waste a year for a few plays a game at the end of the year... ?

Right now. However, no one said that would be the case all season. If he's cleared by the doctors in October, why would you still hold him out? Remember he got hurt last November. ACL injuries usually keep an athlete out 9 months. We'd be hitting 10 months since the surgery in September.

IF...

IMO, he will be too far behind, and there is no need to rush... Depth chart is nice. JMO tho

If PW is as good as advertised we wont get the 5th year anyway

We could very well need him in a big way in October. Those games are going to be pretty critical to who wins the east so if he can be impactful by then you play him

I see very little chance or reason to red shirt him unless he has a setback w the knee

Heck even if he could only play a bowl game I'd think about it. Just don't see him as a 5 year player

Idc about a fifth year... I just think he needs to be brought back slower then most of you.. JMO.. I also have tempered expeditions of him early on though, coming back from injury..

Yeah I'm not expecting freshman all American but if he can help in spots ill take that. I also think getting playing time even if small and getting some game prep will help him be much further along year 2

I think this is where the confusion continues to come from.... No one is saying play him if he can't cut or isn't 100% or to rush him back...... He should be fine at some point in the season. At that point you play him because you lose nothing. He will not be here 5 years anyway.

Who said he can't cut? Zack Azzanni seems to believe that he will be on the practice field ready to go, when they resiume regular practices?

I assume this means you have a fare better source than Williams position coach?

I'm really glad he chose to go to spot where he could play and help the team. As for my "QB" posts, VN always said as soon as he signed Butch would move him to Safety. He was adamant that he was a QB. He didn't give schools a look that weren't recruiting him at another position. Alabama came after him hard. 3 schools said he was a QB... UT, OSU, and Auburn.

I'm thrilled he's a WR but if we hadn't recruited a "QB" he'd be in Auburn right now
I hear ya. Testament to ol Stones Jones for locking down talent in state..can't wait to see what he can do.

Unrelated news- I swear I saw a PW thread around here somewhere 😶

That's right! Jones got a free 5* WR out of the deal. I'm fired up to see him.

So he can't cut or their not letting him cut yet?

Serious question, because there is a big difference....

Not really. It's not about being able to cut once and there be no issue. This HAS to be he can cut just fine without damaging the repaired ligament at all(beyond normal). As an SEC level player you can't risk it. There is so much force on that area. And I don't know when he had surgery, I remember there being talk about him putting it off. But usually it's a year. Even if the docs said he can be full go in a month they could come back and push it if they don't like what they can see. So putting a date on a return is premature. Obviously play him if he is able, but don't count on it because of a date.

Pretty sure the "no cutting" comment was made by Larry over in the main forum so, at least as far as this place is concerned, that's about good as you are going to get.
