'15 TN ATH Jauan Jennings (UT commit 4/7/14)

no you are missing the point

both of them wont be a qb - CBJ was always planning on taking 2 QB's - so we are saying either of the 2 are a good enough athlete/non-QB prospect to fit in a 25 person class

he isnt taking 3 QB's he is taking 2 QB's and 1 athlete - just don't know which of the athletes would move yet

Jennings has already stated he wants QB only. I have already been proven wrong, and there are quotes saying UT is recruiting him as a QB. I thought it would be ATH.

Gentry is a QB straight up.

And Gibson has said he wants to be QB.

Sure, someone may switch once they get in the program. But you can't switch Jennings to S just because Gibson wants to be committed.

Either way, we only have a certain number of spots. Whether or not those spots will all be filled by the time Gibson commits next year, we don't know. I personally do not see Butch bumping someone just to add Gibson.

of course both said they want to be a QB - many ATH say the same thing - and CBJ will tell both they will get a shot at QB - both will get a shot at QB - and we will have 3 FR QB's in this scenario for about 2-3 weeks - then whichever is further behind will no longer be a QB and will be an ATH recruit that is a far better recruit most likely then whoever our 23rd non QB recruit would have been

Wasting your time arguing. You take this kid all day everyday. You give him his shot at QB and if it doesn't work then he is such an elite athlete he will succeed at some position. Zero harm in giving him a real shot at QB. He could very well develop into a fine QB. I don't know many 1st year qbs that look like Johnny football after a year.

:clapping:

I don't think "giving them a shot at QB" lasts 2-3 weeks. If you told Gibson or Jennings they had 2 or 3 weeks to prove themselves, they would both look elsewhere.

Neiko Creamer got 2-3 weeks of offseason workouts before he was moved to defense, and he was adamant about being a WR.

The staff told D. Barnett that he is going to be a DE, but I doubt he ever practices a snap there.

It is what it is.

The number of QBs that CBJ will take in the 2015 class depends on what happens after spring practice.

It's likely that we will have at least 1, maybe 2 QBs transfer out of the program.

I think CBJ is content right now with landing 2 QBs (Gentry/Jennings).

Gibson is a back up option in case we have a transfer or lose out on Gentry. It's still early.

I say take Jennings and roll with it. Whatever happens after that, happens. In any event we're going to be in good shape. A Jennings in hand is worth both a Gentry and a Gibson in the bush.

Gibson is a back up option? Hmm.

Right now, yes. That may change though. Dobbs was a back up option for CBJ.

Only thing that makes Gibson a back up option IMO is he has no intent of committing anytime soon. I seriously doubt the staff is telling him he is a back up option. It just works in their favor right now that he is waiting till closer to NSD.

I don't think Dobbs was a back up option at all. IMO he more less fell into the coaching staffs lap just before NSD when he decided he wanted to be closer to home and his disabled mother.

I agree that there's no way the coaches are telling Gibson that he's a back up option. I think Gentry is the no. 1 QB (top on the board) and they want Jennings for his versatility and the fact that he is in state. Those two for the QB spots is the most ideal situation.

Dobbs not a back up plan? I disagree. CBJ wanted another QB for the 2013 class. The coaches contacted him in November/December and set up an OV in January while Dobbs was an ASU commit. Flipped to Tenn close to signing day. That's definitely a back up.

Jones was just hired then and he liked Ferguson enough to honor his commitment. He probably wanted both. Neither are what I consider back up plans.

When, do you suppose, is the earliest they would have started recruiting him? :ermm:

This is really wrong.

Thought he was doing pretty well at WR though, just moved to LB to bolster depth there.

He moved to linebacker because he's built like Optimus Prime.

I have a feeling it won't be his last move before his Tennessee career is over either... D End is calling his name. Looks like Barkevious Mingo.

I'm all for letting Jennings get his shot at QB. But what do we do when Gibson comes to us and sees that we have a QB already committed? Tell Gibson that Jennings is gonna play safety? And then if Gibson commits, do we tell Jennings that Gibson is gonna play WR? Plus, Gentry and Nunez are still out there too.

This is exactly what I have been thinking as well. I'm wondering if the coaches have given the green light to all four of these guys to commit. Is it possible they think we are solid with any of the four and are really focusing on Kendall next year. Most of the top tier QB's are looking to start by their second year at the latest, and if our current QB's live up to their potential, I'm not sure any in the '15 class will be able to do that. If Kendall turns out as good as some think he could be and we land him, seems like he could be in position to start in year two.
