I knew I wanted to play quarterback from the get go, he said. Its just a position that youve got to have a lot of responsibility on your shoulders. I love having responsibility, and I love having control when its crunch time.
All that matters is what I want to do and what I think I can do. I think I can play quarterback at the Division I level, and I guess Im just going to have to show people.
About his recruitment: With the process coming to an end, its no surprise that all of Jennings top schools, with the exception of Alabama, fit his playing style as a quarterback. Thats the position he wants to play, and thats the position hell likely start at regardless of which school he chooses.
Handicapping the race: The two favorites to land Jennings commitment next week are Auburn and Tennessee. Hes a similar athlete to Marshall, making him an ideal fit to run Gus Malzahns offense. However, Tennessee is the in-state school, and the fact that the Volunteers get him on campus just days before his announcement cant hurt their chances. The dark horse in all of this is Alabama, but Jennings would likely have to agree to give up his dream of playing quarterback if chooses the Crimson Tide.
I'm all for letting Jennings get his shot at QB. But what do we do when Gibson comes to us and sees that we have a QB already committed? Tell Gibson that Jennings is gonna play safety? And then if Gibson commits, do we tell Jennings that Gibson is gonna play WR? Plus, Gentry and Nunez are still out there too.
Most kids worth taking aren't scared of competition.I'm all for letting Jennings get his shot at QB. But what do we do when Gibson comes to us and sees that we have a QB already committed? If Gibson wants to be a Vol he needs to go ahead and commit very soon. If he waits until after the season his top 5 will look a lot different than it does now, IMO. Unless of course he wants to go somewhere that already has 1-2 QB's committed.
The issue with him waiting, if he chooses us, isnt his competition. We wont have a huge class this year, we may not even have 25 slots. If i'm not mistaken, Kahlil McKenzie is going to be commiting late as well. If those two both want to commit and we only have one slot left... well sorry Gibson.
They'd make room for guys of that caliber IMO. That said, if Tennessee gets say Jennings and Gentry in the fold soon, then they probably wont pursue Gibson all that hard the rest of the way, which makes it hard to imagine he'd call up in January and want to all of a sudden commit.
If we already have 2 commits at QB, I dont see them bumping someone out from another position to let him in. I think the first two QB to commit get it.

i agree - you let him commit and just tell him that he is going to have to compete and beat out the other QB commit to stay at QB - otherwise he will be moved - which is basically what would happen to at least 1 of the 2 anyway
and any QB committing to a major program knows they will have to beat people out for the job - if noone is ahead of them there will certainly be people committing behind them with talent - part of it
You two are missing the point. It's not compete for the Job at QB. It's compete for a spot in the class, against all other positions. If we already have two QB locked in, it's hard to justify bumping someone at another position to add a QB. Sure, the numbers are an issue at every program, but when we are trying to rebuild depth, we have to be even more careful how many we take at each position.
