I think we all need to give Butch the benefit of the doubt when it comes to evaluating talent and accepting commitments. Let's take a look at some of the guys in the '14 class that people were skeptical of when they were first offered/committed:

Chris Wheatherd
Lavon Pearson
Jakob Johnson
Emmanuel Moseley

Now I realize that these guys still haven't really proven themselves yet, but I bet noone on here would say they wish we hadn't signed anyone of those guys.

I'm fine with all of them as long as Weatherd gets in.

Joc was at a UT camp and apparently displayed talents that impressed Butch and the staff. That is the reason they offered. He may have looked like a low 4* to them instead of whatever he is ranked by the services. I in no way suggested that you or anyone had to "Boom". I didn't mean to hurt anyone's feelings so if you so desire just do an "Un-Boom".

Im pretty sure Butch doesnt look at prospects and say hey that kid looks like a low 4 star lets offer him a scholarship...

Elite rated classes turn into champions when they have a player or two that will play/work with a chip on their shoulders. Something to prove and a REAL love of the orange is a must when considering a "dream team"(see the Heat/ spurs this year).

Got to feel good for a kid that has dreamed of running throughout that T and gets a chance to live his dream. Like Jay said, hard work pays off, but it sure helps to have the talent, too.

Love Butch telling him he was offered as a "baller." Kid will hold for kicks if it means wearing orange.
