I wouldn't say that. It's like the guy in business choosing one reason over another to start his career in. There are a multitude of factors why players come here. I notice that ones that don't truly want to be here ponder transferring.
Disclaimer: I'm no coach, expert, scout, or anything other than football fan. So what I say here, you can take with a 70 ton bucket of salt.

My first thought of the Jocquez offer was disgust. Why was CBJ&Co.be offering an undersized guy? A sun-kissed smurf to say the least? This is the SEC not Suxalot Onference. Then I opted to at least look at the kid's video highlights. I looked again because I was certain I had somehow, perhaps via a time portal, watched Gale Sayer in action. On the second look, I figured, "No, not Sayers, it's Barry Saunders." The acceleration. The rifle shots through the LOS.The juke moves. The direction shifting. And all without the infantile taunting we see today. Indeed, looking for the referee so he could "give" him the ball.
I've concluded that, yeah, he can play CB for sure. But the Butch would be doing his team a grave disservice if he didn't play JoBru as a RB. On the other hand, his smallish size does dictate the 2nd best position for him is slot receiver. Cause you do want him to have the ball in his hands. He's just out and out dangerous with the ball in his hands.
I do think he's a bit careless is how he carries the ball. In the SEC that's going to mean fumbles. Lots of them. Cure that, give him a halfway decent OL and this guy is a threat to score every freaking time he has the ball. He can be caught from behind and will be with the fast DBs we see in the SEC. But man, oh man, he will gobble yardage, no in chunks, rather by the mile. You won't cach him every time, so he's going to score and score and score.
Now, if only I could figure out why the picture below keeps popping into y head when I'm watching JoBru's video.
No pressure Jocquez
Well, here's proof that Volnation never, ever reacts.
Heard:
1. Disgusted.
Watched video:
2. Gale Sayers
Watched a lil bit more video:
3. Barry Saunders... done shot out the dam riffle.
I love you people.
I finally watched his highlights and the kid is extra shifty. I wouldn't group him with the likes of emmit smith or Isiah Pead, but he does remind me of a high school player I played against. Birdie Dockery played at Cocke County high in Newport and was one of the shiftiest running backs I've ever witnessed. You couldn't tackle him if He was hemmed up in a telephone booth. Not ultra fast straight line speed, but could stop a dime, change direction, and accelerate like he was shot out of a gun.
There are differences. Emmitt Smith had a way of lowering his upper body to maintain balance while shifting directions. It made him a strong and difficult target to tackle. Bruce might do this at times, but he relies far more on the juke. With his quick feet, he is a side stepper. I can certainly see why Coach Gillespie recruited Bruce. If he is coachable, and he probably is, then Gillespie might turn him into a good D-1 back.
They should just name the recruiting thread to the indiscriminate "boom" thread.....
Got a commit from 3 star RB with not great speed who will be converted to slot receiver. It does take time to teach a RB to be a receiver (considering his has been a RB during his entire high school career). Time will tell in his development.
But I digress - this is not a place for discussion - it is a yet another boom thread...
Every time he cleanly fields a punt he makes a positive impact. Clearly you are a short term Vol fan and don't remember all the guys before DY where it was an adventure to cleanly field the ball.
Given the limited number of ships it does not add up for me. The #28 rated prospect with offers from MTSU and Memphis. It isn't going to kill the class but it isn't the kind of recruit taking us back to the promised land. Of course you can always say every rating service is incorrect or ratings don't matter.....
