'15 TN ATH Jocquez Bruce (UT commit 6/17/14)

Once roster is back to championship depth, he will not have to do this with as many players. At this point he is trying to flip the roster as quickly as possible with as many players as possible. We couldn't afford small classes these past two classes. He might still do it with 1 maybe 2 local guys that he knows are all Vol and it would mean he can sign another 1 or 2 studs come signing day. It's nice to have that fall back fin case you miss on your top NSD target you can just turn around and give that immediate spot to your blueshirt. If you get your target then the kid is already willing to blueshirt.

Yeah I completely understand and Jones has done a tremendous job turning over the roster and getting talent in to fit his system. Just saying we can't continue to do this every year, it does have a few drawbacks. I do think that by doing it though Butch not only is turning over the roster faster but is also setting precedent if we have a situation where we want to add a kid down the road. He can point towards the success stories like Jashon Robertson and possibly one of these kids this year. That said I wouldn't want to be doing that consistently. That's my thinking though, Jones knows more than all of us put together on this so I'll just trust him.

Article on 247 says he will wear #24 and start off as a slot receiver.

:good!:

Jocquez Bruce on campus with Tennessee Vols, ready to work

...
Bruce was one of two Tennessee commitments in the 2015 class, along with Perry, who weren’t announced by the Vols on National Signing Day. Both players agreed to blueshirt, which will allow them to play this season without being considered initial scholarship counters for Tennessee’s 2015 class.

As part of the agreement, Bruce didn’t take an official visit to UT or receive an in-home visit from coach Butch Jones’ staff. And his arrangement with the Vols wasn’t binding, although they plan to place him on scholarship this summer.

He said he was happy to accept the blueshirt offer, which allowed Tennessee to squeeze another player into its class.

“They explained it to me, and it’s not really anything (different) to them,” Bruce said. “I’m still going to get a full ride, and I don’t have to sit out a year, so I’m fine.”

It's always great to get a local kid who really wants to play for the Vols and has such an unselfish attitude. I hope he has an amazing career here!

Same here. He's going to really surprise some naysayers. Much more mature than your average freshman and can really play the game.

To point out the ridiculous disparity in talent between the two programs:

At UT, Bruce may never see the field except for special teams.

At Vandy, he might start as a freshman.

Who's state?

Best fans in the country.

C'mon man. There is literally no argument to be had there. It's like working at Krystal and declaring, "best gourmet burgers in 'Murica."

This is why I'm not completely buying the idea that we take under 20 recruits this year. There will be enough attrition to open up more than 20 scholarships. If we really do take less than 20 we'll end up well under the overall 85 number IMO.

Edit: And I just saw that Swafford's career is likely over due to an injury. I hate that for him.
