I'd be happy if we got this kid...if he's the victim of our numbers game,he's the type that will be a thorn in our side at another SEC school...that being said, Reid,Love et al are talents you can't randomly pass over...trust in Butch's evaluation and live with it I will.
Willy Wonka meme is one of the best meme's, IMO. This is my personal favorite...

Not sure why but that makes me LOL every time I see it.
Also, to the poster who thinks he is going to be a top 150 player, Rashaan Gaulden was an "unknown" before his senior season, having missed his junior season for a transfer. His season was as good as it possibly could have been, and some analysts said that he had 5* talent, but he still did not climb into the top 150.
No disrespect is meant when people say he MAY end up a 3 star. To climb to 4* status would be almost unheard of, and a 3* rating is respectable and most likely reasonable.
Why is every Knoxville recruits thread the same? Yeah, the kid put up a good SPARQ score.... tell him to join the track team. He wont be a 4*. Numbers arent everything. SPARQ doesnt test football IQ, breaking tackles, blocking, play recognition and a lot of other variables. Most of the Nike events put up inaccurate numbers anyways.... esp the vertical. Theres also the question of could he carry a full workload. Why was he getting a handful of carries per game?
This kid just reminds me of Daryl Rollins-Davis from Knoxville of last year. DRD put up a 111.something SPARQ (which is also high). DRD had 140 carries for 1,990 yards (14.2 average) and 39 TDs as a SR. As a JR he has 215 carries for 2,402 yards (11.2 average) and 31 TDs. Ended up with 12 offers from smaller schools and signed with Arkansas St. Ended up a 5.2 2*.
Now I'm not saying Cottrell isnt a good player. Just saying you shouldnt live and die by SPARQ numbers and stats. He wont end up a 4* because these recruiting sites wont boost him that high just because of test results and big stats. Tons of kids put up huge stats.

It's pretty simple if Cottrell gets an SEC offer he will immediately be bumped to 4* if he doesn't he will stay a 2* or maybe 3*. I guarantee you recruiters pay attention to anyone that can run a legit 4.35. Will be interesting to see how he does this fall. Cottrell is bigger and faster then Rollins and he has the frame to ad more weight.
How was his 40 timed? Most likely it is inflated, as usual. What's more likely, a kid that runs the 4th fastest when compared to NFL numbers and not being recruited by a major program or skewed numbers?
I am not saying he isn't most likely very fast or very skilled at running the 40 atleast, but that isn't the only factor.
Let it play out before you get in an uproar about it. It is very early in recruiting.

-Jesse Smithey, KnoxNews.Nathan Cottrell (West, 5-11, 185, running back): With LSU and Cincinnati showing strong interest of late, Cottrell is ready to erupt onto the recruiting scene. Winning the Nike SPARQ Combine in Atlanta in March (he ranked first among 1,767 competitors) should work wonders for Cottrell. He ran a 4.35 in the 40-yard dash and recorded a 40.8-inch vertical. Last season, he rushed for 1,912 yards and 22 touchdowns as a junior, averaging 14.5 yards per carry in Class 5A football for state runner-up West. His Hudl: Junior Year 2013-2014
