'15 TN CB Ugo Amadi

Browner is fine better than 90-95% of the short CBs. That dude made a dumb point about height when the highest paid CBs in the league are 200+ and over 6 feet tall. There isn't anything to support that. Your best CBs are quite simply your best CBs. Regardless of height it's who is good at the position.

Height really doesnt matter for a physical corner as much as its made out to be. I think Amadi is plenty physical.

Is he?

All of these freshman are gonna play. A year in our system should have them more prepared compared to one year of JUCO.

It's all speculation. You don't know how any of these guys are going to pan out. By all accounts, Martin has the most talent of any of the freshmen we are bringing in. Also, we don't have any big CBs. Most of our guys are small and fast. We need someone who can match up against larger WRs and not get manhandled all over the field. So he fits a need there as well.

About the same size as Gaulden.

CBJ has already signed/added almost 60 kids to the roster in his 1st 2 classes. That includes about a dozen in the secondary alone. If he is still needing day 1 starters, his and his staffs coaching abilities are about to be questioned. JMO

Who was recruited as a safety. Don't know how well he will translate to the CB position. Martin is about 10 pounds bigger, is playing the CB position, and is faster as well. Besides, why not have 2 CBs over 6 feet.

Didn't say not to take him.

Needing day one starters and getting them can be different. Do we really need Kahlil Mac to come in and be a day one starter? We are returning all DTs but Jordan Williams who just moved there. Theoretically, no. Is if a bad thing he will come in and take a starting job? Hell no.

The difference, we needed guys like Blair, Wolf/Helm, Medley, and Thomas to start. We needed guys like Malone, Hurd, Hendrix, Bates, Kelly Jr, Moseley, etc to if not start at least heavily rotate.

The need may be gone, but I don't think anyone is complaining if we get dominant guys to come in and start as froshes/JUCO transfers. Other SEC schools have guys that do it as well

I agree that taking kids who could play day 1 is never a bad thing. My comment was directed at the idea that we should only be recruiting "day 1 starters", as IMO at most positions we do not have to sign "day 1 starters" as we have very capable talent there already there on campus. For the most part you don't take a 2 year Juco kid unless he is viewed as a possible starter coming in the door. IMO we are just about to a point where HS(for 4-5 years) over Juco for 2 makes sense for UT.

We don't have to, we want to. Anyone that could come in and be a day one starter from the '15 class or beyond is a damn fine football player.

Taking JUCOs that may never start is okay in some scenarios. Realistically Alvin Kamara may never start.

I think we should only take top CBs this class. If we can't get elite guys then we need to go with better players at other positions. We've taken 6 CBs in the past two classes before this one.

Nicely put!

CBJ has only had one full class so far (2014). The 2013 class was pretty much Dooleys and only included 2 db's. Not sure where you get that CBJ has signed a dozen db's. Are you including 2015 already?

TKJr
C. McDowell
D. Payne
E. Berry
E. Berry
R. Gaulden
E. Moseley
L. Johnson
C. Sutton
M. Foreman
R. Jones
D. Swafford

I think Foreman may be playing in the slot, otherwise I think everyone else is playing in the defensive secondary. Edit, I just read where Foreman is indeed on defense.

CBJ IMO gets credit for the 2013 class. He could have dropped or added anyone he wanted. He did add several from his Cincy class.

I see I was only including 1 (Berry) as a db which I think will be correct and didn't include the 2013 guys except Sutton. I wouldn't pin the 2013 class on CBJ he couldn't add anyone he wanted that late and that class is very average at best especially after losing five of them. CBJ did take 2 players from his Cincy class but not sure that's necessarily a good thing.

Regardless I stand corrected you were more accurate then me on number of DB's.

Elliot likely ends up at LB. Jones is a senior so he shouldn't be considered when looking forward.

I have seen where Elliot could grow into an OLB in time. I counted Jones as I was just saying CBJ has signed about a dozen since getting to UT. Jones was part of that.
