'15 TN DE Dylan Jackson (former UT commit)

So he's a highly rated DE prospect because of his potential as an offensive tackle? Get real. Just because he's tall does not mean he is custom fit to be a tackle. Maybe our coaches wanted him there, but he will be a DE in college, not a tackle.

He isn't a 4-3 de. His best bet is in a 3-4, not a 4-3. Most coaches see him as a tackle, just like our coaches did. LSU may use him as de, but he was not going to be a de at UT. You really think Jackson will decommit over fans wanting to switch his position? It was Butch

Jackson probably would have been a 4 star if they rated him as a tackle. A tackle is the hardest position out of high school to rate, so you base it solely off potential.

I have no doubt our coaches were counting him as a tackle. That's why I'm OK with him leaving. He's a DE, and he'll play that position wherever he goes.

He is going to LSU, so I guess we will see. Quarles even said on the radio that he thinks Dylan's future is at left tackle. I'm skeptical LSU uses him as de. JC Copeland was supposed to play dt for them, and he became their starting fullback. He had a great senior season, but I believe he would make a lot more money as tackle.

Butch should have never showed his hands that early with him. If Phil would have been completely honest with Witten, he would have never signed at UT and would have had a very short career as de.

So we're saying Chavis is clueless?

Unless you can predict the future, there isn't much to say at this point. He may be a great DE at LSU; or he may be a great OT at LSU; or he may not be good at all.

Schools pay coaches to evaluate talent and put that talent in the best position to develop and win. I think this staff has shown not only at UT but at other schools that they understand talent. If they felt he was a better OT prospect, but he didn't, so be it. We move on.

I'm OK with him being honest up front. You'll always have the cases like you mention with Witten and with Randall Cobb, but I think that honesty is better long term because it establishes credibility with recruits.

Yeah, I see this. It's a sensible way of looking at it. But I'm just betting that he'll play DE because he has great instincts. And it looks like LSU is willing to give him that chance (at least on the surface). Don't blame him for going elsewhere.

LSU may use him as de, but he was not going to be a de at UT.

He's currently about the same height/weight as Hunter, very similar overall frame, although Hunter had NFL muscles when he walked on campus. He is to me a more athletic version of Jordan Allen who played for LSU before Hunter basically won the spot.

If he is moved to the inside or to OT, then its a long term project. DE makes the most sense at this stage, although he is 18, who knows how he will grow into that frame.

If someone wants him at DT/OT, then you pass, if you think he is a fit at DE, you take him.

Unfortunately, it seems like nice guys finish last in the SEC. Jackson seems like a really good kid so I'm sure wherever he plays, he will give it his all. If he does play dline, LSU is a much better fit than UT.

Yea, I agree. We don't need an unhappy player. But, I also think that we have a great shot at some other players that are just as good or better. In a Dooley or late Fulmer year, we probably say whatever we need to get him. But this staff has proven it can recruit, and we are at a point that we can let these go. JMO.

I didn't want to lose Jackson, just to be clear. I think Jackson had potential at both DE and OT although his potential is probably higher at OT. If history tells us anything and given our lack of depth at certain positions, I'd rather we get a different player so we don't have another potential Jason Carr situation.

At the end of the day, if he wanted to play DE, moving on may be the best choice for him. Does anyone really see him beating out anyone on our current roster or other DE in the current commit list?

No to the second part of your post. He would be a project at ot and he doesn't want to be there. We may have actually ended up better here.

Interesting post by Carlos Younger

not true at all. Tennessee was looking for a way out.....thus all this chatter about OL...they really it just came down to Tennessee really wanting to part ways with the kid......they cooled on him...... I am hoping the same does not happen to Z.Stewart and Bruce.....there is some chatter around these commits as well......

He doesn't know more than Chavis. And there is a way to state your case without being a snarky douchebag. He doesn't know how to do that, though.

You are a grown man, I hope. Deal. Not everthing in this world is done in the nicest way. Btw, I didn't see anything wrong with it. I didn't think he was offensive, I think you are sensitive.
