'15 TN DT/OL Zach Stewart (UT Signee 2/4/15)

Not red shirting an OL should be the rare exception reserved for the exceptional 5* type of talent.

Ideally, but that's simply not where we are as a program right now. We have a true freshman probably starting at RT tackle and an unproven JUCO guy battling it out with a walk-on for LT.

I can see the current guys keeping their jobs. We need to transition these guys into SEC ball.

We have razor thin quality depth. Returning players will likely keep their jobs next year, but we'll likely need these guys to play and provide depth.

Zach Stewart (Coalfield, 6-5, 317, right tackle): Stewart is a solid Tennessee verbal commitment and has been since April 2013. He’s a Class A Mr. Football winner, and has proven himself SEC worthy on the field and at spring/summer camps. His Hudl: Zach Stewart - Hudl.

This guy grew an inch and lost 5 pounds last week.

I have seen zach play several times and its crazy how athletic he is for his size. I have seen him chase down running backs that were 10 to 15 yards down field.

He looks like the guy from game of arms

So where do u all see him playing at UT? I think he could be a very good right tackle or guard from his NUC showing.. Very quick feet and good leverage.

With us likely returning all of our interior guys though, we could easily redshirt 2-3 of our OL for the 2015 class. Wiesman can and likely will be plugged in behind any interior lineman that goes down. Plus, one of Mosley/Robertson will likely play guard and add to that depth next season. After that we have Sanders and Raulerson, who haven't shown much yet but will have time lifting weights and conditioning on the interior lineman we take in 2015.

I like Stewart/Jones a lot and think either could be talented enough to pull a Wiesman and avoid a redshirt, but I think the coaches likely redshirt whichever one they feel is behind the other. I really doubt neither redshirts. We had good enough depth on the interior of our OL to redshirt one of them.

Tackle is a completely different story though. I don't think we have the depth to redshirt anybody we take at OT unless we move Jackson there.

Disagree. I think we'll need all the bodies we can get. We'll see.

Unless a player is part of the two deep rotation...you don't waste a potential year of conditioning and development...by next season Stewart AND Jones redshirt and WE benefit.

Maybe I'm missing something but I thought Zach was up for a bump in rankings??

He is. Rivals 100 came out yesterday, 250 comes out today, rest of the new 4stars just outside the 250 tomorrow, updated 3 stars Thursday.

I'm guessing Zach will be in the 250 this afternoon. If not, he'll be in that 4 star outside the 250 tomorrow.

If Jackson, Crowded, and Kerbyson come back next season, one of Mosley/Robertson are moved to OG, and Jones and Stewart play OG, then one of if not both Stewart and Jones will redshirt.

There's really no reason to expect otherwise. The two deep in that scenario would be:

LG: Jackson/Wiesman
C: Crowder/Raulerson or Wiesman
RG: Kerbyson/Sanders or Robertson

In any case, if one of those inside guys goes down, Wiesman is filling in for him.

Weisman is a casualty of a real JRVFL scenario...too good to redshirt and needed for depth.

Stewart didn't make the 250 but I'll be surprised if he's not a 4 star tomorrow.

That's disappointing. I can't remember which rivals guy it was but he seemed to rave about him after a camp recently. In reality, rankings don't always tell the full story, but it's nice to see recruits get bumps and stars for all the work they put in. Can't wait for Stewart to get here.

Bingo.

Isn't it great when your coaching staff realizes TN is a good state to recruit? Generally, they commit early, honor their commitment, get themselves prepared, etc. Zach will walk in the door ready to go.

The best OLs that Tennessee have produced, were homegrown IMO...those late 80s line with Lenoir and Mays...early 90s with Layman,Bubba and Myslinski...we've always produced enough big ugly talent that if you clear most of the yield...you'll be happy with your running game...that's only gotten better. :aggressive:
