'15 TN OL Riley Lovingood (UT Signee, 2/4/15)

SIAP- guess that means we've got another legacy.

"Riley Lovingood still remembers falling asleep in former Tennessee coach Phillip Fulmer’s chair as a young child while his father, Jeff Lovingood, served as the Vols’ chaplain under Fulmer. His older brother, Trevor, and his uncle, John, also ran through the “T” as student managers at Tennessee under former coach Johnny Majors and Derek Dooley. On Saturday, Riley Lovingood decided to continue his family tradition. The junior long snapper from Beech High School in Hendersonville, Tenn., committed to Tennessee on Saturday while attending the Vols’ junior day after receiving his first scholarship offer from them just five days earlier, giving coach Butch Jones’ staff its eighth commitment for the 2015 class. The 6-foot-1, 240-pound Lovingood chose Tennessee over interest from Auburn, Clemson and Georgia, among others." - 247sports

Here is the post about his legacy status.

Anyone who watched the Oklahoma State/Florida State game last night, still questioning Butch Jones for offering a long snapper a scholarship?

The OK State long snapper plays another position and handles long snapping duty, where are Riley Lovingood is a specialist-he is very good at it and will do nothing but that when he arrives at UT.

The OK State long snapping miscues cost them the game with FSU last night.

In the Auburn K State game tonight the KS long snapper was not the sole reason for the misses tonight but he definitely the cause of the missed field goal right before half time that would have tied the game up. If K State hits all those field goals theY beat the barn tonight. Nothing messes with a kicker more than wondering if the ball is going to get to the holder and be set up properly for the kick. Maybe K State kicker knew their long snapper sucked. On the flip side early in the game Aubbie averted disaster with an excellent play by their punter who somehow managed to get a punt away in spite of a poorly snapped long snap that did not arrive in the punter hands. If that punt was blocked or K State covered it the momentum of the game would have been much different. This is why you give schollies to long snappers.

Auburn completely screwed my 3 pick parlay of Auburn -7, Auburn K st. u63, and Falcons -7. I would have been rich. How the **** do you not win by 7 when your #5 in the country and your opponent misses 3 fgs and turns it over 3 times.

There are only a handful of elite LS in the nation. If we get more prospects training to be LS at the next level then it could become more of a trend across FBS schools like it currently is with kickers and punters. Right now it's more of a royalty thing. Coaches realize the importance of an offer when recruiting a top-level LS as opposed to the old route which was to either develop someone for the job or have a walk-on take on the duties. Either ya work with what ya got or you go out and find someone who you know is the best LS in the area. Coaches are starting to chose the latter more and more, especially with big-time football programs.
