'15 TN WR Van Jefferson

Maybe, but I've seen mention on other sites from people who claim to be close to him downplaying what is being reported out there and that it is one person, a coach or something at his HS who is a big OSU blowhard who has been the one telling all these sites that he's an OSU lock. So who knows.

That would be sick. Van would be a huge get to go with Williams, North, Malone, Pearson, etc., etc. Still baffles me how an elite QB in the '15 cycle would go somewhere else.

The only thing I could see would be replacing the whole OL but as far as WRs, RBs, and TEs any top QBs would have plenty of targets to throw or hand the ball off to.

Definitely. If we could land Williams and Jefferson, then we would absolutely have the #1 WR corp in the nation (at least on paper).

Is that for sure? I know we've gotten some very good ones the past couple of years and have another beast in the fold this year but I'm not sure how other teams have done in comparison. But you would have to think we were one of the best if not the best. I'm going to try to work up the gumption and find out for sure when I get home unless someone already has the answer.

Jefferson reminds me a lot of DeAnthony Arnett coming out of high school in both his size and in his style of play.

Jefferson is 6'3 outside WR with length and arnett was slot at 5'11

Rivals had Arnett listed at 6'0" 167 and Jefferson listed as 6'1" 166 so that's what I was going off of. So I'm assuming Van has gotten bigger since then, wasn't aware of that. But nonetheless they are/were both long limbed and thin coming out of HS (I think Van has the frame to add more weight than Arnett did though) and have a similar game IMO. :hi:

Phil, Van Jeffeson is much more similar to Justin Hunter. He is long, lanky and smooth. He can go up and get it. Good timing and balance on the jump balls. Not as athletic, not many are, but he is still a very good athlete.

Van Jefferson is obviously more polished and runs better routes which is why he can get open as easily as J Hunt did in HS. J Hunt was faster but he was pretty raw as a route runner, so they sorta balance out in that way.

Again, people that would know. Brent and Paul, People that know his father Shawn Jefferson (titans WR coach), people at IFM where Van Jefferson trains etc....Several sources

This guy has been a member since 2010 and does not post a lot so no glory hound like most of us. I go with him here.

Which begs the question, why aren't QB's banging down the door to come.

RB's elite? Check

WR? Potential to be best in the country (Double Check)

Maybe top QBs are wanting to see if the staff can develop QBs at an SEC level. This staff still has a lot to prove outside of just recruiting in the SEC.

I think this is an interesting point.

I think it's a risk for a young QB without the right competitive ego.

If one or more of Peterman, Dobbs, or Ferguson do end up being a serviceable QB, then it's going to be hard for a fresh out of high school kid to step right in like he'd like to. Kids don't like to wait to get on the field like they used to. Unless it's a program like Bama, where they have them lined up until 2020.

I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't see a big name QB commit until the season is nearly over or through. JMO though.

Except QB, Bama can't recruit a top QB. They don't have the rep to develop QB's. NFL has taken a couple of their QB basically as a token bc of the success they had there. None have made it and neither will McCarron.

I really want van Jefferson, he sort of reminds me of Malone, because he's very polished, was well coached growing up, and is very intelligent. He will make an immediate impact because of his maturity.

Wish someone had pointed that out to Cornwell. Our coaches seem to want him in Orange pretty bad. Hopefully the staff starts to develop more kids at more positions(inc QB) and we can have a better shot at some of these guys.

That certainly is a valid point. I believe, however, that geography also plays a significant role this year. Elite quarterback prospects are disproportionately located in California and the PAC-12 has more programs on the upswing than has historically been the case. (Yes, I know that we have had good luck in recruiting quarterbacks from the left coast in the past, but it does not seem likely that we will land one from that area for this class.) On the other hand, there are comparatively few blue-chip qbs in this year's class from the Southeast. Stidham would have been an excellent candidate but Texas schools were lined up to fight over him.

It does seem most of the polished QBs are West of the MS.
