'15 TN WR Van Jefferson

I think Tennessee fans can only take solace in the fact that Austin Clark visited Tennessee a week or so before committing to USCe. Most saw that as a positive sign for the good guys, but alas, he commits to SOS.

Have to hope for the same from VJ.

Some feel that last minute visit by Clark to UT was his last effort to get CBJ to take his commitment. I still think Clark would be a Vol IF CBJ wanted him. I doubt Van is giving Oscar Meyer a last minute chance to take his commitment as I think OSU would take him anytime he wanted to pull the trigger.

I thought I remembered PFort or Hubbs claiming that Tennessee slow played Clark in favor of some others, and then tried to jump back in at the last minute, but it was too little, too late.

Maybe I am misremembering.

"The feeling right now is either South Carolina or Virginia Tech. Those are the two schools I've heard the most over the last 72 hours.*

Tennessee didn't recruit him very hard this spring but decided to make a push at the end. Doesn't seem like it will be enough. But, I should know more by later tonight."

PFort on Austin Clark prior to his decision.

I do think I recall reading that as well now that you mention it. Still though had CBJ always wanted Clark(like I assume Oscar Meyer has Van), not sure the trip to OSU can be viewed as a good thing for UT at all.

Found the post above. I do agree, this isn't good for Tennessee. It was always his plan to visit OSU and maybe UGA once more, but I think the hope was that those plans would be scrapped. They apparently weren't and it's got me nervous.

One thing to remember with this is the family gave the OSU staff their word that OSU would be their last visit before committing. I think they are just honoring their word, quick day trip and then commits to UT. I still think Van is all VOL.:good!:

Sometimes kids want to be 100% sure about where he wants to go. I think he's comparing everyone to us now.

Yep. I agree. He's a Vol, and has been for a little while. I think he is taking one final trip to OSU and UGA before making his commitment public, and shutting his recruitment down.

Didn't know that. If they are just honoring their word, then that's solid right there.

"There's no question in my mind as to how much his father Shawn likes Tennessee's staff and how comfortable he would be with his son being a Vol. Van was very clear in that Tennessee was his leader after the Orange Carpet visit. Those around Van have always said he really likes Urban Meyer."

"I expect Jefferson to announce a decision by the end of the month and it might be that Ohio State gets the last visit and Urban will put the heat on. I don't have any knowledge that Shawn will forbid his son from going somewhere. He might, but I don't know that to be true at all."

"Tennessee has had to win over mom and have done a good job recruiting her. I think Ohio State has ground to make up, but who all is going up to Columbus today and how much ground can they make up and how much do they have to make up are all unknowns."

That is not necessarily a bad sign according to those comments.

Not trending in the right direction.

Sounds like Van is trying to have one last ditch effort to convince Dad that Urban isn't a bad guy and give his blessing on OSU.

We may still win out if it doesn't work, but we will see.

Sorry to be negative...but you'd have to think at some point our depth chart at WR will hurt us with some of these guys.

Doug Mathews and Swain both have sounded very confident here. I agree it may not be trending to is but if you put a gun to my head id guess we would get him

I could see this being an issue. UT is loaded at WR position.

I don't remember who, but someone made an excellent argument that WR is one of the positions on the field where having a load of top talent is actually appealing because of how many players cycle in and out. Could be a load of bull, but I thought it made some sense...
