'15 TN WR Van Jefferson

Open your eyes and get ready then. Same thing happened last year. I think this is how Butch recruits.

Some folks have been saying it for a few months now it would happen this year. We have lost 1 and that was due to grades(Woods). We are about to be into October, I guess we'll see if CBJ starts cutting kids loose.

If he can upgrade a position with another recruit that wants to be a Vol, then he will. It's how championship teams are built, and I don't know about you, but I'm ready to have one again! I'm tired of no one respecting us, and I'm ready to rub some salt into others' wounds for a change.

Simple concept. If you're not going to keep them(commitments), then just don't take them. Especially as early as they are. If they tell a kid they now see him as family when they take the commitment, that has to mean something.

All part of recruiting. Kids flirt with other schools and some flip. Why can't coaches continue to recruit their needs, and on NSD sign the very best that they can for that class?

This is the best way to go about it. Recruiting is ruthless and you have to sign the very best you can get.

Since the coaches are not able to comment until they have the LOI in hand, who knows how the conversations went on their commitment. I certainly wouldn't tell the world "They like me till somebody better commits". I agree with LV that you are only as good as your word, but we only hear one side of the conversation. Besides, it's gotta help the kids exposure, being a UT commit.

His dad called Saban and told him Van wouldn't be going there because they haven't been putting receivers in the league.

And Georgia has?

I agree. SOME do. A lot don't. As we have seen recently with UT recruits especially, a lot of them do not take visits other than UT. IF a recruit is sticking to his UT commitment, should the staff not do the same? IMO, of course they should. I have long said if a recruit is taking visits, then I feel his spot is up for grabs. If the kid is making the grades, and not taking visits, his spot as a VFL should be secure no matter how many *'s he has by his name. IF the staff took his commitment, he should feel his spot will be there come time to sign.

Yep and some kids will cut themselves loose.

+1...Happens every year and it blows my mind that some think it will never happen at Tennessee with Butch Jones. Coaches who aren't continually looking to upgrade in every aspect--INCLUDING recruiting--aren't going to remain employed very long...especially at schools like Tennessee.

Woody Wommack, a rivals "analyst," says he heard the Vols still think they have a shot with Jefferson.

Wommack isn't the most solid source and if you recall is the guy who predicted Malone to every school he visited except TN.

I thought Woody was all over the Malone to TN stuff while Barton Simmons and others kept switching crystal balls to whatever school he visited

Nope. It was actually both. Woody generally speaks negatively about TN.

He tried to convince everyone on volquest that Malone was Clemson bound the day before his announcement and then refused to acknowledge he was wrong.

Barton Simmons actually said at one point Vandy was in for Malone and Tn was out. LOL.

That's when using the word analyst for the recruiting site writers I always use quotations. Most of them are as clueless and biased as the average poster on this board.

Hubbs and Fortenberry at GQ and Ryan Callahan on 247 are the best in the biz and the only people you should really listen to regarding TN recruiting.

We have other more pressing needs imo. Don't really care if he comes to UT or not. Would much rather have an OT, CB, RB, LB.

Agreed but Butch seems to be pursuing another wr if we can land a player like newsome or Jefferson.

Barton isn't nearly as bad as he used to be now that Franklin is gone. He's a great source of info regarding Nashville prospects now imo.

I remember how adamant he was that Vandy, Ohio State and Bama were all ahead of UT like a week before Hurd committed. The backpedalling he did that day was hilarious.
