There are realities and recruiting limits. If we had 4-5 more spots and all other needs were filled and we had the luxury of taking another WR then fine. Next year we will have P Williams, Perry/Bruce, Pig, Vic, Johnson, Smith, Pearson, Croom, North, Malone and Jenkins. Doesn't include Carter, Bowles, Gamble, Blanc, Rochelle.

IMHO, we have much more pressing needs giving our limited recruiting numbers.

When Franklin was there he thought Vandy was going to overtake Tennessee recruiting.

I think at one point he called Hurd a 75 percent Vandy lean with Ohio State as the lone competitor. Hurd later said he never really considered Vandy. LOL.

He did the same with Malone. He said Vandy was third for him and TN wasn't even in his top 5.

Statements like that just ruin his credibility and it should. A journalist should never show bias.

Agreed. He let his Vandy homerism get the best of him when Jimmy was there. He's not nearly as much of an ass towards UT now. In fact, he brags on Tennessee and CBJ quite often now.

And I remember the Malone thing too. I think he flat out said that Tennessee wasn't even going to get an official visit from Malone lol.

Didn't Simmons ruin Barnett's announcement too? Iirc, Barnett called Franklin the day of his announcement and told him he was going to UT. Franklin turns around and tells Simmons about it. Then like two hours before Barnett's ceremony at his HS, Simmons posted a story about how he already committed and basically ruined his moment.

I don't think that was Simmons. I think it was a reporter with the Tennessean. But it was revealed that Franklin was behind it.

But yeah, he and that Chris Smith character crystal balled a lot of prospects to Vandy that they never really had a chance with.

What's funny is how he was so adamant that TN wouldn't get an official from Malone. I think he even offered to "bet on it" with a UT fan on a 247 message board.

He also is no longer having to run the Vandy site and is the National guy so he doesn't have to kiss vandy's butt anymore to keep subscribers

I know some of you will say Van is a WR and Rocker will not be coaching him directly, but Rocker being dad's best friend may have been a huge factor in Van's decision, regardless.

You are correct to a certain level. It's not his dad that was pushing UGA and the realtionship with Rocker, but his mom Marla. His dad Shawn wants Van A UT and I'm working with Coach Z and Thigpen to make this flip happen. The quote in this thread from Buck aka corner36 was from me via Buck's account.

It was once speculated that Jefferson wasn't a priority for TN. Do you feel that has changed?

This is the furthest from the truth. Van has been such a priority that he gets calls from CBJ, CZA, and CTT. I also talk to Bob and the coaches giving them updates. BTW don't be surprised to see Van in Knoxville this wk end.

Van really doesn'tcare for the UGA offense and has always loved and wanted to be a VOL as has his dad. The issue was Mrs. Marla who wanted Van to be in Ga with Rocker. His dad has asked me to tk him to Knoxville tomorrow and we'll be there. Also trying to set up an official too real soon.
