'15 TX QB Quinten Dormady (UT Commit 6/9/14)

Yes, it's obvious they are both elite high school prospects that have been heavily recruited by many quality programs. I never doubted that or their quickness.

Wish someone would show me where I said Jennings isn't quick. Just because the published data shows Dormady to be quicker, that doesn't make Jennings slow.

I think he was more not believing the numbers than not believing you. I have to admit, those numbers do not pass/match the eye test watching both of their film. I think that is all he was trying to say.

My shuttle time is Thursday if anyone is interested...not that I'm running it Thursday but that it took Thursday for me to run it.

Posted this in another forum and thought I'd drop it in here too. We're seeing Dobbs be dual threat and wondering about QD's athleticism...

"Josh Dobbs' 40 time coming out of HS - 4.7

QD's - 4.72

Josh Dobbs' 5-10-5 Shuttle coming out of HS - 4.53

QD's - 4.15

So he's a shoe lace slower in the 40 (Acceleration & top end speed) and a step faster in the shuttle (agility).

Sounds like he'll fit the offense just fine."
I read somewhere, during his recruitment, that Dobbs was timed at 4.6. That seems to be closer to what we are seeing in live game tape. Dobbs has about the same speed as your average RB.

Nevertheless, when I think of Dormady, the first comparison that comes to mind is Collin Klein. He was a much better runner than most would give him credit for...and his combine 40 time was in the 4.7 range

By the time he plays our oline will be much better and just fine with pro style QB. Like others have said QD isn't slow. He has more speed than Worley and Worley would have been fine if he kept the ball more and had a solid oline

The thing about Dobbs, admittedly to my untrained eye, is not so much that he's fast, but that he is excellent at making quick cuts and avoiding being solidly wrapped up. Most of the time when he's tackled, it's from the side and at his ankles. He has a knack for avoiding being full-on form tackled

True, but he also looked flat out fast on some of those runs. Especially that one to close the 1st half. It's a gliding type of fast though, but he was moving.

I can't disagree with you there. He had some ridiculous moves on that run.

Sidenote: I just realized that I got my 5th star. Nationdom would be foaming at the mouth to get me into the recruiting class now.

Where did you see 4.6? ESPN actually had him at 4.9. I definitely agree he looks more like a 4.6 with some nice acceleration

He was timed at 4.6 in Jan of his SR year. Was asked about it later and he stated that he had been timed 4.6 more than once and that 4.6 was the fastest he had ever been timed.

40 times are absolutely and completely irrelevant unless they are laser timed. Not just because they are more accurate tests, but listed/reported times can't be trusted.

Dobbs looks like he is skating when he runs.

He has very little lateral movement when he is running North and South while maintaining speed. He has great vision and has mastered football angles. He runs with his eyes better than any I have seen.

I'd be very surprised if Dobbs' 40 time was still around 4.7. He sure looked a lot faster than that last week against SC.

He's a long strider. They usually don't have as good 40 times. He's fast for sure, but 40 times are so much about the start at the gun, not about how fast you go at top speed. Usain Bolt is the same way. He's not usually far ahead of the field or even ahead at all at the 40 split, but he always wins by 100.

40 times are way too dependent on your technical savvy as a track starter. Not that they're useless when it comes to comparing speed, but if the fastest man in the world didn't know how to do a perfect track start, he'd have a bad 40 time.

Yeah. I can't remember the exact website, but when this subject came up last year, I remember posting a link to it.

You can also see 4.6 listed on this HUDL profile:
R. Joshua Dobbs - Hudl

The No.1 element to his game, that endeared him to me when we signed him, is his elusiveness in the pocket. He is slippery and able to take a play that would have gotten Worley or Peterman sacked, and turn it into a big gain, instead.

His passing game is pretty sound, as well...so, it's been really frustrating for me to see Worley get the nod to start the season. Not because I think he's a bad QB or anything, but Worley was just a bad fit for this offense from the start.

If Worley was the QB for Bama right now, he'd be just as successful as McCarron was. But in this offense, his lack of mobility is a liability. One CBJ thought would be sufficiently mitigated by Worley's experience and leadership.

dobbs runs like tee martin did. tee looked like he was barely running but he was moving. like op said, it looked like (tee) he was gliding. I think dobbs is a completely different style of player than tee was though.

The kid does have great vision. He has many athletic traits that can't be coached. I didn't realize just how skilled he was even after watching him last year. He seems much more comfortable this year and is letting the game come to him and attacking the hell out of It.

Is this the Dobbs, Jennings or Dormady thread?

Dormady had another good night. Brought his team from behind to win. Capped off the night with the winning TD which was a 30 yard run.
