'15 TX QB Quinten Dormady (UT Commit 6/9/14)

Could be interesting to see what happens. If QD is concerned with a 3 QB class, he would obviously have other quality options.

UF does not have a QB committed now.

TCU has an ATH who played some QB, but may not in college(not a very good passer at all, more a runner).

QD could always just ask CBJ directly, "IF Jones wants to commit after JJ and I EE, would you take him"?

He does not like the answer, do what he's gotta do.

If you ever have a kid who goes through the recruiting process.... i feel sorry

What the heck is so wrong with three qb commits? Two are ees and the one that's not can redshirt problem solved. It has no qbs or tackle or depth at any position for that matter. They gotta take all they can imo

I'm wondering if we are trying to replace QD with SJ.. QD had a less than stellar year, didn't he?

He had a very good year...had to compensate for missing a year...and a relatively untalented team. I admit that earlier in the year I disregarded the cries for a dual-threat QB in this offense...after Dobbs early success, it may be the way they're swinging...and maybe he's noticed also.

QD had a really good season with little help around him. I do remember us being really high on SJ before his UF commitment so with the opportunity of a second chance they are taking another shot. I could see them trying to just add a third QB instead of replacing someone with all the uncertainty we have at the position. It's certainly worth paying attention to IMO.

Yeah I'm wondering if our coaches are wanting dual threat qbs across the board for this offense.

It certainly doesn't hurt having them...especially nowadays.

It's pretty interesting to me that DT QBs seem to be nearly essential to winning at the highest level in CFB--ex. Oregon, Ohio State, and even Bama all have QBs that can run effectively and run frequently and FSU has Winston who can run effectively when needed. On the other hand, the DT QBs are not really panning out in the NFL. RG3, Locker, and to an extent Kaepernick (sp?), among many others, are fairly good examples. Thus, there may be a tension between what NFL teams want and what college teams are producing because it seems that traditional pro-style QBs, for a variety of reasons, are truly the only QBs that thrive in the NFL.

This. I think they see how well this offense runs in the SEC with a DT QB vs a pro-style. If SEC defenses know that your QB isn't keeping the ball 99 times out of 100 on the zone read, then it's hard to run the ball, especially with an inadequate OL. However, with the dual threat, you can run the ball fairly well, even with a very inadequate line. By having all DT QBs, then if one gets banged up and is out for a few plays or a game or 2, then the offense can still be productive.

I agree...I've often wondered why the college game has evolved so differently than the NFL. It isn't necessarily limited to just the QB position though. It seems the college game is built or controlled around scheme mainly where the NFL is more built around certain players/positions. In college, if the scheme works and is ran well, you can just plug players in. That's the nature of the game with recruiting, etc. In the NFL you can't just plug a players in and expect success. Teams who sustain success have a core they have built around. It's definitely a very interesting discussion IMO.

The NFL is about putting talented players in the position to best utilize their talents. The current College game really dumbs down the talent. We are seeing fewer and fewer coaches who can create mismatches on the field. The only thing that the system coaches can try to do is to draw a safety down into the box and that is about it.
