'15 TX QB Quinten Dormady (UT Commit 6/9/14)

Can he play? His team went 2-8 last year. Torrance Gibson's team went 15-1 and won the Florida 5A state championship game 66-8.

Dormady reminds me of Zach Gentry (whose New Mexico team also had a losing record at 4-6) in that he's the latest "passing" (read: white) quarterback that some people here are rallying behind as an alternative to much better "mobile" QBs like Gibson or Francois.

We have plenty of other options at QB ahead of Dormady. There's no need to panic and accept a commitment from Dormady right now that might jeopardize our chances with those other guys.

There are a lot of black QBs who throw the ball really well. There are also a lot of white QBs who run really well. Seems odd that you have attached a race stipulation to the QB you need to see playing at Tennessee.

QBs are the new DTs for UT recruiting. So much wonderful opportunity is there for the taking but recruits are inexplicably turning us down

I don't think anyone we have pursued this year has cut us from their lists.

I thought he was showing up and leaving before the camp started. People were saying he was scared to throw with other top QBs and was skipping town before the camp started. Maybe I read it wrong though.

He was originally coming on the 10th

Someone has reading comprehension to have completely missed the fact that Dormandy missed his entire Jr year

I bet if TG hadn't played last year his team would have been undefeated...#muchbetterwhennotplayingbrah. :yu:

If that were true, the other 3 QBs they whiffed on would have committed and Dormady wouldn't have gotten an offer.

This man speaks the truth. We are having a lot of trouble snagging a QB this class. Hoping we can get Dormady. He may be our last hope of getting a decent QB in the class.

I wouldn't say he is a lock, but they defintely are at the top and will be his likely destination.

Are you basing this off anything said by Dormady? It seems like his parents love the UT staff.

Frankly if any QB doesn't want to pass to the UT receiving corps over the next few years, then they're crazy.

Why do you even need a QB this class? You've got David Cornball coming in.

Looks like that Kiffin hire is paying off big dividends already.

No I agree. I would prefer to not take a QB to help with 2016 class but Saban always takes one, so we might as well try to get a talented guy. We usually take a 'underrated" guy who turns out to be rated low because he isnt any good, ha.

We have Coker and Cornwell, with Bateman showing decent potential so I would like to put everything into 2016 but oh well.

You guys got all your eggs in the coker basket don't you? Is Cornwall after him if he sucks or gets injured?

I mean, it would pretty much be him and Cornwall. Bama QB situation is nowhere near their RB. Our main selling point would be our WR. UT and Bama have almost identical depth at QB.

You take Dormady because of the WR talent we have and he's the best pure passer available for us right now. You have Jennings as a project QB and a change of pace type guy. You hope Jennings progresses, if not you've got a WR/S.

You're making fun of David Cornwell? You do realize CBJ wanted him very badly don't you? You do realize that he is better than any QB we have right? Good Lord man I would have loved to have Cornwell starting for us this year.

I wanted to see CBL land the kid as well. I still refer to him as Cornholio after he picked bama.

I don't think anyone we have pursued this year has cut us from their lists.

It's not necessarily about cutting us from the lists. It's that we have an excellent opportunity available for a big time qb. Amazing WR talent. No one that has proven themselves at QB. And little depth on top of that.

And out of the QBs we are after:
Gentry - people thought we led, but he goes horns
Francois- seems that people think he's to be a nole
Gibson - people are all over the place but the consensus I gather is that it will be hard to keep him from the cheaters on the plains
Waller - wants to be a buck or a duck

And then we find Dormady and people seem optimistic until copycat saban jumps on board the trail blazed by Butch again and offers and now everybody thinks he's going to the qb graveyard in Tuscaloosa

So yes, I see QB as similar to our DT situation the last few years. We should be having to beat big timers off as they clamor to be the ones to get a spot yet we are still waiting and waiting.

Small update:

Does UT have a chance vs. Bama?

"Tennessee definitely does. He moved up his Tennessee visit and basically decided not to do the visit tour next week because of the Alabama offer and having two really good choices."

"The fact that the family has elected to stay two extra nights on this trip to Knoxville tells me a lot about their interest. He's staying once again tonight and leaving tomorrow from Knoxville."

"In my opinion, and from talking to several people, it's a two-team race right now with Alabama and Tennessee. He could do something as early as Monday from who we've talked to."

Wow sounds good.

I truly believe Butch wants to exit the Summer with a 2nd QB on board... Whoever that may be with Dormady, TG, or even Francois.

And instead of letting the dominoes fall and take who's left or get hung out to dry somehow, I think he wants to start/trigger the domino effect himself.

If Dormady does indeed plan to decide on Monday. I like our chances. Polish that turd Kiffy
