'15 TX QB Quinten Dormady (UT Commit 6/9/14)

This may have already been stated but this guy is a pro-style QB not read option - spread - dual threat QB....... so what gives.....

Dont we want the best dual threat guys to run CBJ's offense instead of pro-style QB?

Just how mobile does a kid have to be to tuck it and gain 4-5 yards 4-5 times a game? Even Worley has done it a few times last year and in the spring. I think people make way too much out of "dual threat" QB and what it would mean for UTs offense.

injury and good enough for big boy offers

Don't know too many kids that can say they didn't play their jr year and have offers from TN and Bama. That tells you the kid is legit.

Also I know it's Vandy but Karl Dorrell offered him on spot after seeing him throw. I assume he knows a good QB when he sees one.

TX was ready to offer until Gentry took the spot. He showed out at Dallas Elite 11 but he happened to be at same event as Kyler Murray and Jarrad Stidham so he missed the Elite 11 finals invite by being right behind them

CBJ offense is a throw first, but still have mobility mindset. It's not a run first system. That's why LeFeveour was so good in the O. Good passer, could run the read option, and get outta troubke when need be

Did you not notice that when Worley was hurt and Dobbs ran the offense there were more zone read runs by the QB. Worley was very reluctant to run the keeper on the zone read - it was open many times. Let's just say was encouraged mightily by the staff to keep it more than he was. And for the zone read - spread option to be effective, the QB must be more of threat to run than Worley will ever be. Very few teams in the SEC will be afraid of Worley beating them with his legs in the zone read.

Did you notice the score of big games with Worley vs dobbs. Legs keep the D on their toes...but the arm makes the plays.

And did you not notice that the coaching staff at UT offered and looks to have taken this kids commitment? I would sort of lean toward they know what they are looking for and may think they found it. I'd guess they have had QD run the ball some and see how fluid he is when tucking it and keeping it. I'd guess he showed them something that has them thinking he would not shy away from taking off with the ball. I'm sure QD has a good feel for his game and what he is capable of. If he did not think he could execute the offense, he would be headed to bama. JMO

^ Clearly knows how to run the O better than Coach Jake

Clearly your feelings got hurt by that statement. I'm sorry, fella. You misunderstand me. If Coach Jones and Coach Jake want this guy as their #1 QB this cycle then I'm okay with that. I don't really understand it, but I'm okay with it. I'll dance with whoever takes us there. I'm just saying it seemed to most that we were looking to shift toward the more mobile QBs. I fully realize that another Worley styled QB can get it done, too. As long as he's wearing an orange jersey with a T on it I'm going to support him just the same as anyone else. If Dormady becomes a Vol I hope he breaks every QB record on the books. :peace2:

People like u are too stubborn to recognize the evolution and progression of the game. You're not taking full advantage of the read option without an actual running threat at qb.

I think you do not realize how much LeFeveour ran in the "system".

Here are his rushing stats:

Rushing

Year Games Rushes Yards Average Touchdowns
2006 14 123 521 4.0 7
2007 14 188 1,122 6.0 19
2008 11 168 592 3.5 6
2009 14 183 713 3.9 15

Career 53 671 2,948 4.4 47

He is not number 1 but they will take his commitment if he gives it. It doesn't mean they won't recruit players higher on the board that are a better fit if he commits.

BOL writer finally switched his crystal ball to UT for Dormady. Writing was on the wall of course.. but now its a done deal. Everyone agrees it is UT.

Congrats guys. Hope we either take no QB or get Waller. Tired of wasting schollies on QBs that will never make it.

I don't comprehend why people are still asking the same mobility/ DT QBs questions that Leb, Tux, I, and others have addressed multiple times. Read through the thread and those of you with questions will find the answers.

Also for those asking how Dormady was at the camp: If I was not mistaken he did not partake. He was originally not going to stay for it because he wasn't originally going to come. I am quite certain this was a "pay for" camp and with the short notice he didn't have time to get on the roster. He was there the whole time though standing beside Butch getting the ole Butch recruiting KO. He might have thrown some passes later on, but he wasn't in a jersey an helmet.

Lots of NFL RBs making $$$ to average 4-5 per carry. But hey...they aren't a running threat either, are they?

But he didn't run a 4.4. And was a pocket passer first. Similar to Dormady...

By all means point out the QB we lead for who can run a 4.5 and complete 60-65% of his passes. I mentioned Francois would actually be #1 of the QBs available. I think he would be a very good mix of run/pass and he is a much better passer than the guys who are better runners. He still is more than capable of running this offense. Would I take Francois? Yup. Are we getting him? Nope. It is what it is. The coaches like what they see in Dormady and Jennings. I'll roll with it.
