'15 TX QB Quinten Dormady (UT Commit 6/9/14)

“They were definitely a huge factor,” Dormady said. “I felt comfortable around them and those are great men. They’ve got great character. That’s who I want to surround myself with to become a better person and later down the road a better husband and father. They were definitely a huge part of it.”

This quote right here shows me enough about his maturity. If I, or anyone else, wasn't sold on this kid then they should be now. I know I am. I'm going to continue my campaign of Dormady for Heisman 2015 :)

Such an enlightened attitude. Facts are facts, regardless of whether you want them to be or not. And calling someone an egghead or nerd (in essence) for taking the time to figure out what he is talking about is embarrassing.

While Patrick may be wrong to be as worried as he is, most of what he says - Butch's tendencies, SEC tendencies, what works, etc - is dead on.

Thank you turambar85... I knew there were a few enlightened Tennessee Vol fans still left on VolNation. Frankly I am not highly concerned about the QD commitment - I have been simply offering some statistical analysis regarding CBJ's offense and offensive tendencies over his career as a head coach and have posed the question of how QD's attributes as a pro style qb fit within CBJ's offensive scheme.

I have continued to add statistics and respond to my critics because most have simply asserted that "well since CBJ wants him so he must be a good fit" and/or "patrick you're an idiot and have no idea what you are talking about" or "well CBJ is recruiting higher caliber players so his system will be somehow different".

QD himself has stated that he is first and foremost a pocket passer. He has further stated that he definitely needs to improve upon his zone read skills (note his school does not run zone read so his first introduction to it will be when he arrives at UT) as well as his speed. Those are statements from him not me.

Still I am hopeful that he can develop his speed/quickness, footwork and zone read ability because he does have a good arm and vision.

This. We should have beat Georgia with Worley. We did beat South Carolina. I think with Florida's slow start, we beat them had Worley started. Also, if we had a healthy Worley, we beat Vandy. Easily could have been a 7-8 win season had things been a little different.

If "ifs" and "buts" were candy and nuts we would all have a merry Christmas.

:loco:

Dobbs has a good bit of mobility and some inherent running ability that can't be taught. He did average 5 yards a carry.

And who's to say QD doesn't? He's an athletic baseball player that has been described as "capable" the last few days in terms of mobility. Was Tony Pike not "capable" in Butch's offense? He certainly was more successful than Munchie Legeaux

He was actually a year before Butch at Cincy--in Brian Kelly's offense. Replace Tony Pike with Brendan Kay or Zach Collaros and you're golden. 100% agree with your point though.

It also says a lot about our coaches and others involved in the program.

Does anyone know if Dormady has been invited to the Elite 11 camps?

The Elite 11 competition is very political and a lot of times those guys who get hyped aren't top notch college prospects. See Woodard last year and his lack of big-time offers.

That said, yes he competed at the one in Dallas which was where 247 saw him and evaluated him and jumped him all the way up to the #5 PS QB in the country.

Negative, Captain. We can't hold any more. If we do, she'll blow!

We were looking for 2QB's in this class. We got them. End of story. It's really that simple.

A school coming off 4 consecutive losing seasons isn't going to stop pursuing an elite 5* athlete. Only TN fans would think of something so silly.

So would you be turning away Kyle Phillips or Drew Richmond to add a 3rd QB that may not play QB? Just curious.

No. Do you really think it is going to come down to that? That's laughable. There is still plenty of fat to be trimmed off the current roster and plenty more prime candidates to drop if it came down to it...Like Woods who probably shouldn't even be on the commit list any longer.

It may have been said already but why is everyone freaking out him being a 2* on Rivals. This is the same website that had Preston Williams as the number 16 or something WR in the nation. They will do the same thing and gradually bump him up over time.

Why would they be freaking out? The Rivals guys have said over and over he hasn't been evaluated since his injury. Most guys they haven't evaluated originally get stuck with a 2-star rating.

I'm so glad we have our two QB's sewed up in this class...they can both concentrate on bettering their skills and hopefully BOTH EE...Butch and staff can build the other parts of our team with vigor and peace of mind...wish Gibson the best of luck...wherever he goes...just ain't gonna be here. :wavey:

QD is plenty athletic. I don't know why anyone would question that. Like I said before he looks more athletic on his sophomore film to me than Dobbs did on his senior film.

And you're right. Collaros and Kay were not guys you'd say were overly "athletic" but both put up plenty of rush yards in this offense. It all gets down to if the QB is willing to keep the ball when he has a wide open running lane, something Worley, for whatever reasons, simply would not do last year.

He may very well end up at Auburn or elsewhere, but Tennessee isn't slowing down in their recruitment of him. People need to quit assuming both he and Jennings are definite QB's in college. Because they aren't.

Thanks. The reason why I asked is because if he is invited then we will be able to watch him on the Elite 11 show that ESPN does for it.

I think he's plenty athletic based on his drill scores but I don't know where you're getting that he looked more athletic than Dobbs did. The tape I watched of Dormady, he was pretty much a statue with a good line. He stayed in the pocket and threw. Every now and then he'd roll out and throw. Dobbs' HS tape was different. His line didn't always hold up so you'd see him running around escaping them a lot and finding a man open downfield.

Dormady scores well enough to where he should be a fine athlete but I haven't seen his running/escape abilities on game tape.

How good is he at WR? That and Safety are the only other two positions I see him at in college. He may be a consensus 5*, but I'm more worried about finding more OL, DL, and LB than I am a WR at this moment. That is why I think we may still be recruiting him, but will go with other spots first before he is allowed. IMO we need to fill the spots that are in dire need first. Again, JMO.

He's an elite athlete. Bottom line is you take those type of guys and then find the best position for them once they arrive. That could be QB, WR, CB or Safety. If it came down to it I'd take an elite athlete all day over say a project on the OL.

People acting like he is going to steal Richmond or Phillips spot or any recruit of that caliber hasn't done their homework in the past when it comes to recruiting. There are always a few projects and guys who are stretches who fill out a recruiting class, granted there were a LOT more with Dooley (basically consisted of 75% of his recruiting classes) than with Jones, but there are still a few in every class. That's whose spot he'd be taking if it were to come down to it.
