'15 TX QB Quinten Dormady (UT Commit 6/9/14)

Oh I know the story. I'm an old guy. My point is if you you're a Vol fan after the last several years you're pretty much a VFL. We all have one goal, to see the vols at the top of the mountain again. Some have differing opinions on how to get there. All this Vol on Vol hate bothers me. It's why I usually stay away from the football forum. The recruiting forum is inching closer each day to what the ff forum is. I don't understand why we have to ridicule a poster when we disagree. Can't we just say "I couldn't disagree more with that statement" and have a decent discussion instead of saying "you're the stupidest pile of $#/% I've ever seen. why don't you gtfo you useless piece of %#$÷"?

I agree. For the most part, VN is civil.
I think the loser of an argument resorts to personal attacks and cussing. :hi:

Even I'm thinking this thread is getting crazy and that's saying a lot. :eek:lol:

I get discussing how 1 QB fits in vs another. Talking *'s or whatever, OK.

Trying to argue why the coaches are wrong in what they are looking for after taking the kids commitment?

Yeah, I'm not even sure where to go with that.

Hey LV,
I am very happy QD picked the Vols, how about you?

Any nice properties open up in Norman?
( Had to ask) :)

QD is plenty athletic. I don't know why anyone would question that. Like I said before he looks more athletic on his sophomore film to me than Dobbs did on his senior film.

And you're right. Collaros and Kay were not guys you'd say were overly "athletic" but both put up plenty of rush yards in this offense. It all gets down to if the QB is willing to keep the ball when he has a wide open running lane, something Worley, for whatever reasons, simply would not do last year.
On that long run he had last year, he looked very uncomfortable going down the sideline. Almost like "I can't believe I made it this far... what am I supposed to do from here?"

Worley really needs to work out with the RB's a bit this summer to improve his run game. Teams really don't expect him to run anymore than once or twice a game. If he worked on his speed and form + learn a few moves from Hurd and the other RB's, he could have an impact in the game, as an occasional runner.

Alas, I think Dobbs game has risen a level or two, and it will be extremely hard for CBJ to sit him on the bench in favor of Worley.

The only concern I have with Dormady's recruitment has nothing to do with him directly or our staff's evaluation of his skills. It is, rather, an artifact of history. Compared to the success we have enjoyed over the years in recruiting kids from the West Coast, we have had notoriously bad luck in signing kids from Texas and even worse luck in their retention. Hopefully, Dormady will be an exception to that pattern.

Brandon Stewart would have been a great QB at UT if he was older or younger. He led aTm to the 1st Big 12 championship in 1998.

Is this an injury like a dislocated shoulder where once it happens it's more than likely to happen again or one where once it's fixed it's as good as new?

More like a cartilage tear in the knee. If it is viable and they can repair it good news. If they have to remove it, bad news long term.

Different than a shoulder dislocation.

I've heard the absolute key to an injury like this is the quality of surgical repair and a very, very strict rehab. In Dormady's case, it seems like he had the best Dr. in the field do the procedure. I haven't heard much about the rehab, probably as much as anyone else, but what I have heard seems to suggest it has been a successful process.

On another note... I don't think some people realize how fast a 4.7s 40 really is, especially if it was electronically gauged. If he runs a true 4.7s 40, there really shouldn't be any issue with his scrambling ability in QB run situations.

I love the 40 time debates because very few people understand a true real 40 time. I think a lot of couch quarterbacks think they could go out and run a 4.9 or so cause they ran a 40 in High school.

4.7 is faster than Dobbs I'd wager.

4.7 is hauling ass, imo. The difference between a 4.7 & a 4.3 is only 4 tenths of a second... if you think about it, that's maybe a step & a half slower across the 40 line. I think I saw somewhere that Manziel runs a 4.68.

I have seen the following 40 times on different sites: 4.6, 4.7, 4.9, and 4.5. Who knows what his true 40 time is? Dobbs has pretty good wheels and I would bet he is faster this year.

Dobbs is NOT a 4.5 guy. We've all seen him run. If he ever runs a sub 4.6 I'll be shocked. You need pretty near perfect form to break 4.6,and his is nowhere near that.

Look at combine times for NFL players who are obviously faster than Dobbs.

Point being, QD is plenty fast enough for us.

lol 40 times again.. If Bo Wallace can be a running threat, then all our QBs will be just fine.

Hard hitting stuff.

The point is that .4s is about a step or step and a half. It seems like some people think the difference between a very low 40 time, like a 4.3, and a more common 40 of 4.7 is 7-10 yards. It's really not.

If it held up for 100 yards, then a 4.7 40 guy would only need about a 6-7 yard head start to outrun a 4.3 guy from end-zone to end-zone.
