'15 VA DT Tim Settle

Nope the grades were a concern a week ago. I don't think that is why Clemson now leads, I just been told for the last week (even when I thought Tennessee led, because they was responding to me about him) that Settle has some grade issues.

They was just more blunt when a Clemson fan was talking about leading today

Just pointing out something I found interesting. Back on around 5/29 reports came out from VQ/247 that UT was leading for Settle. During those 11 days or so between then and yesterday there was no mention(at least on here in this thread) of grade concerns. Literally within HRS of him naming Clemson his leader, grade concerns are tossed out into the discussion.

It just makes me laugh at times.

Grade concerns are grade concerns no matter who leads. I still hope Settle chooses the Vols. That doesn't erase the fact there are legit concerns. Long way to go either way. I hope he gets everything straightened out no matter where he chooses to play.

To be honest sometimes you don't want to spoil the party, and this place can turn fast on you when you bring a wet blanket to the party. I thought about not saying anything today (there are other rumors out there about Settle that I didn't mentioned, because he is still just a kid), because of the reason you mention.

Plus VQ/247 are not the only boards about college football. Even the Clemson guy came on here and said yes there are some concerns according to what they are hearing.

Yep, grades will continue to be a story with home no matter which way he goes. I really think he'll either choose Clemson or Tennessee. With so many mutual Dline interests, it would be better for both programs if he qualified, as it would cut down on the competition with the other prospects.

I could envision a scenario where Clemson may back off Jones should they fill up their numbers with Settle and Huggins. If it's a foregone conclusion he won't qualify, both programs will up the ante on Jones, who looks like he'll drag this thing out until at least January....

Maybe his grades would be taken care of at UT :whistling:

With an entire school year in front of him and hopefully with some proper guidance I would be willing to bet that he does qualify academically unless he is really flubbing the SAT. I also doubt he winds up at Clemson. I think they are just the flavor of the month like we were in May...

There may well be grade concerns. I'm just pointing out that during the week and a half since UT was his #1, between all the Booms, Gifs, and "We get it", there was no mention of these "grade concerns". He names clemson #1 and then the concerns come to light.

Agreed. It isn't like it's just a random thought. I was sitting on the info same as you. It would have been brought up sooner or later no matter who he's announced as a leader. As it happens it was brought up a day after Clemson was named leader, oh well...doesn't change anything imo.

Believe them or don't believe them...up to you. But no point in saying it was brought up simply because he named Clemson his leader. You say you deal in fact, not assumptions, and it seems you are making some pretty big ones yourself.

Maybe with said concerns we aren't ready to accept a commitment from him and Clemson is willing to take that chance. Were in on a lot of high caliber talent and I view Settle and Tuttle as 1a and 1b, so maybe we don't want a spot taken by a guy who may not qualify. I still think it's a UT CLEMSON battle till the end.

I think my point was pretty clear. Names UT his leader on 5/29. There is no talk at all of grade concerns over the next 11 days during the celebration phase. 8 HRS after he names Clemson #1, Vol fans coming out the woodwork with "grade concerns". I'm not saying they are not real. Just funny that they were not worth mentioning till UT was no longer #1.

That's all.

I've felt for quite a while we were only taking 2 DTs this year. McKenzie and Jones would be fine with me.

I guess it's what you classify as flavor of the month? Clemson's certainly been in it with him for a while and aren't a flash in the pan. Could he name Tenn the leader in July? Absolutely. Would it mean Clemson has gone away? Very little chance, as I don't expect Tenn to go away now that Clemson's been named the leader.

Both schools have lasting power, IMO and I wouldn't say I doubt he winds up at either place.

Lots of things happen behind closed doors. Who knows why he named Clemson his #1? He LOVES every school he visits. Personally I took him naming us his #1 with a grain of salt. It was nice to hear, but that's about it. I only mentioned what I had heard along with others. Funny to me how you assume it's only being stated since he named Clemson #1. Agree to disagree?

Long way to go in his recruitment regardless. He has time to fix his grade concerns and change his mind on #1 a few more times after visits. I'm sure it will be a UT-Clemson battle to the end though.

Oh yeah since we are only taking like 16 commits this cycle, or is it down to only 15. Alert Volnation: we've only got about 4 or 5 spots left.

Yes, 16 spots as of today. Yes, we only have 5 spots available as of today. IF any more current Vols decide to leave UT early, more spots MAY become available.

The number was 18-22 before any attrition. I'd say with several guys gone, we will be able to take a full class.

FWIW, Stripling mentioned they wanted half their classes on avg. EE which would make the target number 22 for this class (him having already mentioned 11 was the target for this class).

But but but...the numbers! We don't have that many spots available right now! What does Strip know? He's only DL coach/asst HC. It's just a guess on his part.

Well I mean I don't think anyone, including Leb, ever said that wasn't the case. Before that can happen though we will have to have more current vols leave the team. It isn't an opinion, it's black and white.

I personally believe that we take 22 and that there will be an exodus of players shortly prior to the season.
