'16 AL WR Velus Jones (Transfer)

The question is, is our lack of production in the throw game related to Dobbs deficiencies or is it a true reflection of the offense? I personally think it's Dobbs' inability to stretch the field vertically. If you look at Butch's offenses pre-Dobbs both at Cincy and here, the passing game, including the down field passing game was featured heavily. Couple that with a weak O-line, from a pass blocking standpoint, and you see why the passing yards has been average at best.

If the lack of a stellar passing game can be attributed to Dobbs and a O-line, one can sell the fact that this WR will not be playing with Dobbs or a freshman laden OL for the majority of their careers.

That being said, it doesn't look good for the Vols here.

I think you will see us throw the ball a lot more under Guarantano. The staff doesn't trust Dobbs.

I would much rather see Dormady or Jones next year, just to see. Both may be an improvement in regards to passing, but we would lose a little threat of running. Defense won't be able to stack the box anymore.

Some are over exaggerating a lot. It absolutely matters that the top half of our wide outs have been attacked by injuries.

I believe it. It's frustrating to say the least. Most of his passes are off target.

He completes almost 60% of his passes, so your statement is not accurate. I will admit that many of his passes are dink and dunk type throws, but almost all QB have a good many of those throws also. When you factor in the drops, and there have been some, I would say that the perception of his inaccuracy is overblown. He still needs some work, no doubt, and he does struggle with the deep ball and some mid-range throws, but he is not as inaccurate as many of you think.

Our offense would suffer, pure and simple. Dobbs running dimension is what makes us go. I do wish we could throw it more consistently, but our offense is designed around his ability to run the ball.

The really only deep throw that I remember Dobb's hitting was Josh Malone. He's hit some mid range stuff, but that was the receiver adjusting to a badly thrown ball.

He threw a lot of 20 plus yard passes. More than I thought. He is an above average QB, imo. I really believe that the injuries and youth at the wide out position hurt more often than Dobbs just being inaccurate.

Someone asked about other WR we are in on..

I think if Velus chooses OU and Corley stays up north, then they will look towards Callaway.

You have to remember that Jeff George, Brandon Johnson, and Corey Henderson are committed at the moment, plus Vincent Perry will be healthy and potentially Croom if he decides to stay or graduate and move on.

And our offense works pretty good. I like how we make every team we play have to defend the whole field.

That is a good point. The other thing that people tend to forget is that he was fantastic throwing it in the two big comeback wins we have had the last two years: South Carolina in 2014 and Georgia this year.

I think it is clear that the staff is not content with who we have currently committed. I hope that we can get someone like Corley or Callaway. Either of those would be a huge get.

Seems smart. Bench the guy that was 4th in the conference in total offense. Also your unquestioned leader in the most critical and important season of the last decade.

Yes! I thought about that earlier when looking at our UGA stats. When we have to throw it, we can move the ball pretty good through the air.

I really hope we get Callaway. I don't hear much about him though.

And a lot of those were screens and flairs.
