He's a sophomore.
I'm aware of that...I'm also able to compare him to some of these recent tight ends and its obvious to me that Wolfe doesn't possess elite speed or strength for a TE. Remember our 3rd round selection Jason Whitten? Bigger and faster than Wolfe. Remember the bowl game when Whitten caught the 15 yard pass then outran all the Michigan DB's for 50 yards? Wolfe can't do that right now.
I like Wolfe a lot. I think he's a fine player and has good hands. Realistically if he can stay healthy and continue to develop he may be a mid round draft pick in 2 years. I seriously doubt any of the teams we play are game planning on how to prevent our TE from beating them. Talk of him declaring after next season is fantasy.
Feel free to bump my response after next season when he gets drafted.

I remember a lot of tight ends that got drafted...WAAAYYY slower and less athletic than Wolf...usually by my Bears. . If he declares he'll get drafted and this thread will be way too much a pain in the butt to bump.
I commit to bump the thread if this occurs for Mr. WOLF!
The 4 most talented TE's I'VE seen play at UT are in order: Dustin Moore, Jason Whitten, Brad Cottom, and Luke Stocker and Whitten was the highest draft pick at #69. I understand the NFL provides underclassmen a predraft ranking of 1st day (rounds 1-2) or not. Where do you think Mr. Wolf's abilities compare to the best to come through UT? Personally, I think he compares to Stocker if he can continue to improve in the S&C department. He would have to be the best ever to get a day 1 ranking.

I may be forgetting someone though.
IMO Mychal Rivera might be the best pass catching TE I've seen here at UT..Reggie Harper was in beast mode EVERY game and I loved the way he blew up CB's LB's and S's on sweeps..He could use leverage to block probably as well as any TE I can recall but was outstanding as a receiver as well..I thought Rivera came close to breaking Witten's season record for yardage..I could be wrong though...

Frank Wycheck who rarely watches Tennessee games says Wolf can play in the league.
Stocker was more of a traditional TE, blocking on the line more than downfield and catching passes. Witten can do both at an elite level. Wolf is more a Hunter Henry type, blocks better downfield than he does on the line, great pass catcher. In fact, I think Wolf might be #1 in the sec next year if Henry goes pro. I may be forgetting someone though.
The freshman O'Grady at Arkansas is impressive and Blazevich at GA was the top ranked TE coming out of HS in 2014. I still don't understand why we didn't give Harris a look out of Clarksville last year as we're still thin at TE?
Again, I'm a fan of Wolf. He reminds me a bit of O'Leary from FSU who was a really good college TE. Wolf needs to add some quality weight before attempting to step up to the NFL IMO, JMO, TIFWIW.
Wolf is 6'6" and 250 pounds, how much bigger do you want him??
And I remember someone saying that Wolf wasn't nearly as big as Witten, Witten was listed as 6'5" 260 pounds at UT, so as a Sophmore Wolf is an inch taller and just ten pounds lighter? That's pretty comparable to me.
EDIT: And as an edit, I just looked up the size of your average NFL TE and it's 6'3" 250 pounds, so Wolf is already larger than your average NFL TE as a college Sophmore.
I don't think 'can play in the league' is in question. Question that started all this centered around his ability to leave early and be a high draft pick. IMO, he is 100% able to play in the NFL. And he is 100% a 4-year player in college. No way he leaves early.

I'd have to see that myself before I believe it. Now I don't work at a circus and I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, but I'd guess he's more like 6'-4" or slightly more and around 235. Again, just how he appears to me, TIFWIW, JMO.
