'16 D.C. DE/TE Devante Brooks (UT commit 1/15/15)

You really don't get how it is a "steal"? I am not explaining it to you either. I'll leave it to the longwinded guys to do it. It is a dumb question.

Devante Brooks was committed to us before he got injured.
Devante Brooks remained committed after he got injured.

Devante Brooks will be an initial counter, regardless.

What exactly are we "stealing"? He's on record saying teams aren't recruiting him anymore.

We're showing loyalty to an injured player. I like it. And I like Devante Brooks.

Like with the injury to Chance Hall, if you can get them 100% healthy, you got a steal.

I see what others are saying but I agree w/ you in the sense that if this guy was healthy & a top 100 recruit you'd be fighting off every major program until signing day. I would think his injuries have hampered both his rankings & the amount / intensity of other programs' pursuit.

Plus you could view steal in regards to outperforming his rankings.

I see what you're saying here. I agree with the lack of attention aspect from other schools.

Brooks was already committed. And solid at that.

In regards to outperforming his "ranking"... I thought we didn't care about rankings around here :)

I apologize, I thought you were just being an argumentative prick with that question. I thought the answer was obvious. It is a steal when you get blue chip production out of a player that other high profile programs would not take a chance on, due to a bad injury..example-Chance Hall.

I hear ya. In any event I'm glad Brooks is a Vol.

Precisely. If Chance Hall continues to develop, he could go in the first round. He has great athleticism. Big props to the coaches on that pick up. Hopefully, Devante Brooks will follow suit. 👌

Brooks will be in good hands in Knoxville. Great position coach, KOC available, and a RS year to get ready.

With Brooks' injury history, the staff's loyalty to him surprised me. Hope the best for the young man.

He has almost Gronk speed with almost Gronk size. If he can catch and block almost as well as Gronk, we'll have a really, really good tight end.

Gronk doesn't block that well. He's like Jimmy graham, just a gigantic WR who can chip on his way to running a route.

Gotta disagree about Gronk's blocking ability. He is a beast and can truck fools. They just don't ask him to do it often because their run game is inept and he is such a weapon catching the ball.

I'll go with he almost has Witten speed with almost Witten size. If he can catch and block almost as well as Witten, we'll have a really, really good tight end.

What I did there, you VFLs saw it.

This is a testament to his potential as a big time TE, not Butch Jones's loyalty. Recruiting is a nasty business. I sure hope Devante has a great career in the Orange and White!

It's definitely awesome they stuck with him. He didn't re-tear his ACL though; it just didn't heal right the first time.

link?

4-Star Tennessee Recruit Devante Brooks Tears ACL | College Spun
the link I am using has a tweet from him saying he did tear it again. and iirc he had another surgery and no surgeon would touch a previously operated on knee that hadn't healed correctly, way too much liability on whose work is was. jmo on the last part, and I hope we redshirt him and let that thing heal up. if it was his first, ok, second makes me nervous. jmo, imo, 2cents, bbq

Very good chance he gray shirts. It would be best for him but I understand him wanting to sign now and get started.

God doesn't bless us all with sturdy knees, great eyes, fast feet or long arms. It is what it is. Hopefully he will take his time and get healthy and strong. Jmo
