'16 FL CB Tyler Byrd (UT Commit 2/2/16)

Byrd will beat out Gaulden as easily as Martin beat out Moseley.

Some guys are simply more talented than what we already. Byrd is one of those guys.

And when do you think he passes up a 3rd year player that was slated to start before he got hurt the previous year?

Byrd may be more talented than Gaulden but I don't think it is by as significant a margin as you are suggesting. JMO. Gaulden is going to eat this year if he can stay healthy.

Except that Martin didn't start right away. With bryd and warrior being added it will be the best db class in the nation IMO but I'm still not betting on a true freshman starting right away. We're getting to the point where we don't have to start freshmen right away.

That's cause he got injured early in fall camp and wasn't 100% till midseason.

So he'll struggle to stay healthy and see the field until Bama week?

I think you're underestimating both Gaulden (who many around the program supposedly consider our team's biggest "what if?" of 2015) AND our staff's preference for experience over young talent.

That being said, Gaulden has struggled with injuries since he came to Knoxville. If he can't stay healthy, there's really no argument to be had.

Does the in-home visit the coaches had with CFA count as one for Byrd also?

Understanding it's unlikely due to the HS coach saga, but could Byrd still qualify as a blue shirt? Hypothetically speaking, of course.

Anyone who sleeps on Gaulden from an ability standpoint is a moran. Doubting his health is a completely different thing. If he stays healthy he will be special.

Only basing on coach talk regarding Gaulden but I think he and Cam lock down the corners with Martin and Moseley getting good PT. I would hope to see Byrd (if commits) and Osbourne worked in like TK and Evan Berry did at Safety last year.

Good God man. You do realize that people around the program consider Gaulden to have all conference potential? And not people like you, but people who actually do this for a living. Your first clue that you don't know one- tenth of what you think you do, should be the fact that you're discussing this on a message board instead of doing it for a living.

I think Gaulden is good. Byrd is just better.

I don't think you guys understand the caliber of athlete we're bringing in. There is a reason he's rated the #1 athlete ahead of Mecole Hardman by ESPN.

Don't doubt that.

I just believe Byrd has all-american potential.

Watch how he dominated the army all-american game. Kid looks like the next Jalen Ramsey.

Someone needs to hire D4H as a talent scout. He seems to know a lot about people he's never seen until recently

I think the young man would have to eat if hew was going to be healthy at all.

I think Byrd could be splitting time immediately.

Byrd, Warrior and Osborne. Nasty. Opposing offenses are going to eliminate the forward pass completely out of necessity. Our D will see fewer passes than an Alabama math teacher.

I just watch ALOT of football so it's easy for me to see guys who are special and out of the norm.

Byrd is one of those guys. He's one of those guys that stand out.

Only other guy we've been recruiting I've felt this good about is Mecole Hardman.

Many people that really followed him thought Gaulden might have been the best player in Tennessee in that 2014 class. And we got some studs in that class.

Also Gaulden has been in a college strength and conditioning program for two years now. Feeling good about his potential. If he's healthy, I think he's gonna make a big impact.

The coaches aren't just going to play the best athletes. Otherwise we would have seen Evan Berry playing over McNeil and Randolph last year. Experience and knowledge of the system is weighted heavily by our staff.

You may be right and Byrd ends up being the better player. But for this upcoming season, it's not as clear cut as you're making it sound.

Very excited about what Gaulden has to offer the team next year. From what I observed he stood out to me in last year's Spring practice. Other players who impressed me were Kyler Kyrbson and Quinten Dormady. Considering Sutton wore Gaulden's jersey number in support of him, I think the players knew how big of a loss he was. Not only do I expect him to start, but to sustain his starting position throughout next year.

I think Byrd is very talented, but would have to work his way up the depth chart like Martin did this past year. This shouldn't be suprising. We haven't seen Todd Kelly Jr start over his peers despite being a highly rated recruit. In the end I don't think he or any freshman CB will get meaningful minutes outside of a backup role barring any injury.

I am not too sure how he would embrace that role. Looking at his twitter, He seems really excited about playing at the U and would probably start there. Yet, at UT he could learn from a potential 1st round draft pick. You never know, but I think we miss out on this one. Despite being close to CFA, I think he would be the most surprising signing...he is too close to Miami and set on being there.

If watching football made you an expert, then every fantasy football nerd would be headed to the NFL Hall of Fame as a coach. Little to nothing can be gleaned from a high school all-star game, most recruits skip them altogether.

I cook dinner everyday. It doesn't make me a professional chef. I'm sure you're a good dude but people get tired of you acting like you have a definitive answer for everything. For example what if you tried " I think Byrd is a a real talent, and I'm interested to see if he can beat out Gaulden ". See the difference ?

That's an excellent point. I could definitely see it turn out that way. Although, I hope he does decide to flip his decision. He would be a great player in the long run
