Doh. I am obviously out of the loop on that inside joke. :thud:
How does this make sense when we've been straight and up front with his star RB. I could understand if this was a school where we didn't already have a player committed but this story seems fabricated.
Maybe there's some truth to the UM fans saying there's no way he'd "let" Byrd renege. Commitment means something and you should stick by it and honor it. in who his players are able to talk to, let alone where they attend school. Your role as a coach in the recruiting process (if they should even have one) is to help your kids not the universities.
I agree with what you're saying, but if we bring in Byrd, Warrior, and Osborne, then I wouldn't be surprised to see one of them work their way onto the field somewhere. Especially since Byrd seems to be so versatile to begin with. If he can learn the system, he seems like the type of guy we could potentially plug and play anywhere there's a hole in the secondary.
Plus, you never know what will happen between now and football season with injuries, transfers, suspensions, etc. One bad decision by a one of our starters in the secondary and it's next man up.
I agree that the most talented freshmen can quickly play special teams and even work their way into the 2-deep and even some decent playing time. I'm just amazed that a lot of guys will watch a kid's highschool film and say they're gonna step on campus an unseat a guy like Justin Martin who is 3 years removed from highschool, is immensely talented, has competed, and competed very well, at the highest levels of college football, and will undoubtedly play in the league one day barring injury or stupidity.
It reminds me of last year, before JG committed, and guys on here, after watching him run away from some slow New Jersey 16 years on a QB keep, declare that he was a waaaayyyyy faster and a better runner than Dobbs.
I'm not saying there aren't some special talents, some elite freshmen who can come in and play early, even start. But to just watch their HS highlight film and then post that they'll come in and start on an SEC team projected to be a top 10 team and displace a stud at the same time...that's just a bit silly to me.
That's how I feel. Maybe it has more to do with TB already decommitting bc of a coaching change. HS coaches especially in the south believe their job entitles them to a say in players recruitmemt. Having an opinion or giving advise is what they are there for. This is completely out of bounds but I don't expect anything less in silly season.
I noticed that alot when we played them.Their DBs were always in the right position and would knock the crap out of you. From what I've gathered from the Vandy boards some of them (the ones willing to admit it) talked about how good their secondary was under Shoop, so that also has to make a great selling point.
What Martinez/UT did with Sutton as a 3* no one had heard of has got to be helping us here. From 3* to 2nd round grade as a junior and potential 1st round grade next year has got to look attractive to CBs.
