That gif never gets old.

I don't think ESPN is the best of the recruiting services, but I think they are a bit underrated around here.

They got a lot of crap on VN for ranking McKenzie as the 26th instead of top 10 and saying that he was more of a two down run stopper than a complete DT at this point and that he needed some development and to get in shape. I'd say that was pretty spot on. They had Jason Carr ranked much more lowly than 247 and Rivals (we know how that worked out). They were one of the few recruiting services that evaluated Dobbs as a dual threat and not a pocket passer.

Truth is, all of the recruiting services are hit and miss (that's part of why I like the 247 composite since it weighs all of the recruiting services rankings together). I don't think ESPN's is as bad as everybody makes it out to be. They have their hits and misses just like other recruiting sites.

is it too late to argue Scout? 🤓 Rivals is best. 247 uses composite rankings. i think 247 has gotten better. Espn is better than 5-10 years ago, but has too many rankings, they have like 1000 4stars. tough to take thay seriously.
Scout is okay. Their info and rankings are nowhere near rivals or 247 though.

247 doesn't use composite. They have composite rankings, but they use their own rankings (which factor into the composite rankings).

But just think when has some big info broke on ESPN about recruiting minus the events they hold (the opening/under armour game)? Always rivals/247/scout breaking commitment stories

Each site hits and misses overall. too many politics now in regards to all star games dangling star rankings for kids to choose their game.

To be fair, ESPN isn't really trying to take on those other guys when it comes to calling recruits all the time and trying to make predictions on where they go and breaking news as soon as a kid commits and whatnot.

That's just not their niche.

Don't forget the cash Ole Miss is throwing around. Ole Miss is dirty as hell and if the NCAA doesn't do their job with them, we should disassociate UT from this crap organization

Based on.....?

You bring up pretty good points with Dobbs and Carr, and they probably are underrated on here, but I still don't agree with their assessment of McKenzie given the circumstances. He missed his entire senior year and wasn't an EE, but he still earned snaps and looked increasingly better as the year went on. With a year under his belt, I think he'll be a breakout star next season.

I get what you're saying, but given how the season played out, I think top 30 was a better analysis than top 10 for him. He was a two down guy this year, our coaches said as much. IMO a top 10 player should be pretty dynamic right out of the gate.

Based on the manpower they put into rankings and the amount of breaking articles the post. Granted different teams have different sites that are better. For Tennessee as far as breaking news Scout would be ahead of 247. Rucker knows and cares about nothing and writes opinionated articles and Callahan gets info from other 247 writers and is always super cautious because he has no sources within UT.

Rivals for UT on the other hand is the complete opposite. All their info is breaking news and comes from within UT (or mostly I'm assuming). That why they started talking about Shoop weeks ago while Scout and 247 had no idea Jancek was about to get the boot.

Sheer manpower 247 outclasses everyone and rivals is second. Assuming that manpower is productive is why I think they're the best rankings wise.

I still use the composite as it just gives an average of 4 sites opinions. I do think it's interesting to see a composite 5* be a mid 4* on one site tho or a composite 3* have one mid 4* ranking.

If no one ever posts the scout info here, how do you know if they are breaking anything? Scout as a whole is equal with rivals. Hubbs and Fort obviously trump everyone, then Callahan, and then Parker-- but I can assure they knew about the Shoop contact before it magically "sprung up."

I said scout for UT is better than 247 for info. Maybe not the quantity of info but definitely the quality. The 247 guys post articles where Barton Simmons will talk to a kid and ask one question about UT. I'm sure Danny and even Ryan knew something about Shoop but I guarantee it wasn't weeks before the hire, and I bet they heard through somewhere after VQ posted the info.

Rankings wise scout doesn't do as much as Rivals/247. I guess effort/manpower isn't everything.

Again, based on...?

It's great for perception, but on multiple occasions they've almost shut down the recruiting portion of the site. As it stands right now they have little to no funding. Their "scouts" that evaluate not only are severely more depleted in numbers but also don't get eyes on as many kids live as other sites. ESPN has 1-2 guys making main decisions and they are mostly guesses. Rivals and 247 see many more games, have many more scouts, and share thoughts. They also have some of the best higher ups in the business (particularly 247). Recruiting is what 247 and rivals do, ESPN wants to can it. 247 and rivals spend almost all their funding to get it done right, the four letter doesn't fund much. They show some games, but they don't properly scout the players.

That's the long explanation. To anyone with a brain they know rivals/247 are much better rankings. I do agree ESPN is flashier and good for perception.

I've looked back at the top 100 players lists on rivals and 247 going back 5-10 years. They're just as bad as ESPN. All have tons of misses and very few hits.

All this recruiting stuff is essentially guess work. I doubt any of the sites is a standard deviation better than the others. You'll have to show me how rivals or 247 are more accurate on evaluations. Cause looking back at the old player lists, they ALL miss ALOT.
