'16 FL OT Marcus Tatum (UT commit 1/11/16)

I don't get FSU..win a NC and play for another with JW, but it is looking all downhill for them now to me. IMO it is the Defense that seems to be going downhill. That NC year D was a stout upper SEC quality squad. They are back to being a acc level squad.

Cause Charles Kelley is a mediocre DC. Pruitt can coach a defense whether folks want to admit it or not.

He's a 4 star on the only service that matters. ESPN.

Perception is all that matters in recruiting and espn is the only national sports network that ranks recruits. Thus their standings are the most important.

It's the main reason we got so much national pub in recruiting. We were top 5 in back to back years on ESPN. If you'll remember we were only 7th in 247s composite standings in 2014. But because we finished 5th according to ESPN in 2014, everyone says back to back top 5 recruiting classes.

LOL tell me you're kidding

From a matter of perception they are the most important. Their evaluations may not be as good as rivals or 247 but I would rather be ranked higher on ESPN than any other site.

And right now we're ranked highest on ESPN. Which is great. 17th in the nation with a 4 star OT ready to commit on Monday is a lot better than 27th on rivals with a 3 star OT ready to commit.

I'm guessing ESPN won't be reporting live from Knoxville this year for NSD? Recruiting has been pretty quiet. Won't be more than 1-2 NSD commitments probably. Add to that a lot of other schools have new head coaches. It sucks. The extra national attention isn't a bad thing when they are on campus reporting live.

ESPN is ****. No one cares about their rankings because they are trash. And no, people say top 5 because they want it to sound as good as possible. It has nothing to do with ESPN, if we had been 17 on ESPN and 5 on Rivals, people would say we had a top 5 class because it sounds the best and you know it.

D4H does have somewhat of a point. When we are on ESPN and they are talking about our recruiting class, they are only talking about their standings, not 24/7 or Rivals. So finishing high on ESPN is great for our perception to recruits and fans watching on TV. That being said ESPN rankings are still awful.

It's great for perception, but on multiple occasions they've almost shut down the recruiting portion of the site. As it stands right now they have little to no funding. Their "scouts" that evaluate not only are severely more depleted in numbers but also don't get eyes on as many kids live as other sites. ESPN has 1-2 guys making main decisions and they are mostly guesses. Rivals and 247 see many more games, have many more scouts, and share thoughts. They also have some of the best higher ups in the business (particularly 247). Recruiting is what 247 and rivals do, ESPN wants to can it. 247 and rivals spend almost all their funding to get it done right, the four letter doesn't fund much. They show some games, but they don't properly scout the players.

That's the long explanation. To anyone with a brain they know rivals/247 are much better rankings. I do agree ESPN is flashier and good for perception.

is it too late to argue Scout? 🤓 Rivals is best. 247 uses composite rankings. i think 247 has gotten better. Espn is better than 5-10 years ago, but has too many rankings, they have like 1000 4stars. tough to take thay seriously.

man. been around the recruiting game for a minute. ESPN has upped its recruiting game. It used to be Scout has best rankings, until 247 came in the game. Back in the day Maxpreps, and Tom Lemming were the bible. Anyway. To each his own. Never cared for espn rankings.
