'16 FL WR Binjimen Victor (Ohio State commit)

Totally agree.

Z is the weak link on the BSiA right now. Z's volleyball philosophy (block and rotate) is making the throw game disjointed. With no 7 on 7 work, we need four guys that Dobbs is going to throw to and get in rhythm with. This receiving corps should be ELITE in 2016.

Receivers left a lot of big plays on the turf in 2015. Z better be feeling the heat and coaching these guys up. It's the area that needs the biggest improvement and could have the most impact on our 2016 Championship Runs.

And what's so ironic, is that Jones prohibits his qbs and WRs from doing 7 on 7 in the offseason/summer, primarily because of potential injury concerns. So, to sum up, not only do our guys not get the benefit of that work to enhance their timing and rhythm in the passing game, when fall camp starts about half of the WRs just go ahead and get seriously injured anyway....two for one...Yay.

Last year we killed Mahoney. He made huge strides under the pressure to perform. ***** made it clear with the Jancek move that he will replace someone if they don't cut it. Let's hope CZA steps up like Mahoney. He needs to.

Not sure Mahoney made improvements. Think it was more DeBord spending the majority of his time with the OL, the older players with another year in the system and weight room and an infusion of young talent that performed well, primarily Jones and Hall. Unfortunately, Z won't have that same type of good fortune unless Scott somehow helps out. After what we've seen the last 3 years, I just don't see how Z all of a sudden turns it around.

If Butch keeps hiring guys like Shoop, are you going to retire this tired BSiA schtick? Or is it too much a part of you?

And that is all based on assumptions. Mahoney seems to be a respected OL coach that has been doing it a long time. Last year our young OL were older, strong, and more experienced. And they look much better. Shocking, huh? I think his role in the poor OL was most likely overblown.

Its not an assumption to say that DeBord spent virtually all of his time with the OL at practices. Been reported multiple times by multiple reliable sources. It's a fact.

I wasn't trying to belittle Mahoney in any way, as I think he didn't have much of a chance to have any success in 2014....not enough talent and what he did have was primarily young and at times playing out of position. I'm not saying that Mahoney didn't play a positive role in the OL improvements in 2015, just pointing out that he didn't just suddenly buck up and do miraculous things as an OL coach......there were other factors.

Azzani on the other hand.....don't hold your breath.

I agree with everything in your post, until the last sentence. We acknowledge that part of the reason Mahoney was catching flack was because of difficult circumstances outside of his control. Young, inexperienced OL in 2014. Those players become bigger, stronger, and more experience resulted in much better OL play. You don't think that Azzani has dealt with even more difficult challenges with his WR personnel? You can't be serious? Losing Pig early in the season. Injuries all over the place. Best WR talent basically injured the entire season. Best young WR coming back off ACL surgery. I think it is very likely we see a similar story play out with WR next season, as did with OL this season. The WR's get healthy, the OL and QB play improves and all the sudden the WR's don't look like an issue. There is enough smoke to speculate that everything is not peaches and cream, kumbaya with Azzani. But he can coach better than the WR production we saw this season. He was playing with a severely disadvantaged deck of cards.

I hope you are right but there was very little talent on the OL in 2014. WR has dealt with injuries but also have had a number of highly regarded recruits at a position that regularly contributes early. I don't even think you can compare the talent wastage at OL to WR

Completely disagree with you about Azzani. Let's just leave it at that. Don't feel like going through all the reasons why again.

Edit: changed my mind, a little bit. I'll just say that I've heard a very, very frustrated Jayson Swain and Joey Kent, two former Vol WR greats on the radio discuss Azzani's coaching methods and techniques....from the stances that he originally had the WRs in that they felt inhibited the WRs to effectively get off the LOS..... to the minutae of detail that he teaches that they said kept the players from playing freely and instinctively.....to the attempted rotation of 7, 8 or 9 players which they said made it much more difficult for the WRs to get any kind of rhythm and timing with the QB (especially since Jones and Z don't allow summer 7 on 7 work).......to the very large, very talented WRs' inability to create separation......to those same WRs' inability to win one on one matchups on 50/50 balls, often vs much smaller/lesser talented DBs.....etc, etc.

As far as the injuries go, yes we've a lot of injuries at the position....all teams do to some extent...and, at what point do we start asking questions about why our WRs constantly have a high number of injuries? North, Perry Croom, Blanc, Smith, Pearson, PWill, Johnson....all of those guys have either had significant injuries each of the last 2 or 3 years or had significant enough injuries that affected parts of 2 seasons.

If you're good with how our WRs have performed over the last 3 seasons under the direction of Z that's fine, no worries. I'm not.

Why would I retire it when it is actually becoming the BSiA? It's a lot less ironic than it was. I didn't think Butch would hire outside his circle from Central Michigan. Call me impressed. Butch grew as a coach this year too (I think; I hope).

And when he hires Peyton to run the throw game - whoa nelly! I bet 7 on 7s are back when Peyton is on board.

They're keeping cza as Butch's scapegoat

The only reason I think they are keeping ZA is they don't want to pay him a years salary to fire him. Paying the DC double what they paid last year was a major move. Butch will keep ZA if he has to for a year. They will do what they can with the WRs. Best case scenario some other school tries to hire him. Something tells me Butch would not fight it at all.

Lot less is better I guess.

Or, it just might be that all of the criticism of CZA is completely unwarranted and Butch believes he is a great asset to the team.

Heck, I remember when a large majority of this fan base was griping because we were starting that skinny armed kid named Peyton Manning over the dual threat guy Brandon Stewart.

Maybe we just eliminate practice altogether. Just too dangerous. No play book. Guys will just show up on game day and draw everything up in the dirt in the huddle. Lucky for us the field is all dirt.

I'm not a coach. I don't know how a lot of this stuff works. I did see the WR production this past season. I see WR recruiting this year. Its not difficult for me to see there are issues.
