'16 FL WR Freddie Swain (Florida commit)

HG, what happened to Central? Are they grossly overrated? I was shocked how overmatched they looked, at times, from a speed standpoint.

No. MC has the worst coaching staff in SoFl. The right coach will have them as the best team in state and top 5 in HS. They gotten by each yr having the better athletes. This cycle they have 5-7 FBS kids... Should have hired Harriot before STA.

I figured they just out athleted others. Too common of a theme amongst the public's in Dade-Broward and the Glades. I went and watched Pahokee vs Byrnes (SC) when Nu'Kesse, DeJoshua and Sheppard were there and there's no doubt who the more athletic team was, but there was no doubt who the more disciplined, well coached team was either.

Could they have competed with STA from a salary standpoint?

STA records aren't public but I've read where Harriot can make $105,000 with base and bonuses.

No way MC could compete unless he's named HC and AD there.

Harriot burned some bridge in Dade a few yrs ago so I doubt he would have been a favorable hire. NW should have made a run at him tho. BTW too.

"It is no secret, Florida made a surge for Top247 wide receiver Freddie Swain over the summer months. We are now two months away from the 6-foot, 175-pounder Citra (Fla.) North Marion star’s planned commitment date of October 29.

Does Swain already know which school he will pick?

“I got an understanding of where I’m going,” Swain sheepishly answered.

Sources close to the North Marion program backed that statement saying Swain has a very good idea of where he will announce to in late October. They went a step further indicating that school will most likely be the Florida Gators. Proximity to home and his mother being noted as a big factor in Swain’s decision.

However, Swain does not have an official visit planned to Gainesville before he announces his decision. Miami, Tennessee and USC are the three official visits scheduled at this time.

“I’m always at Florida so I really know the ins and outs of Florida,” Swain responded when asked about no official visit planned for the Gators at this time.

Florida has made Swain a priority since the spring evaluation period ended. The staff continues to sell the ability to make an impact early.

“They are just telling me keep working hard and I can come in and be a big threat and a big help for the Florida Gators,” Swain stated. “I just want to see how they use their receivers. See if Coach Mac is going to do his thing, which I think he is.”

Head coach Jim McElwain has not been pleased with the performance of his wide receivers during this fall camp. Swain has taken notice.

“I was watching Coach Mac’s press conference and he said he needs a receiver that can catch. So, I think I can come in and fill those standards.”

During Swain’s Saturday night game against Pompano Beach (Fla.) Ely, he wore a towel from his waist with the Gator head logo on it. Is Swain tipping his hand on where is likely heading?

“Nah,” he said with a smile. “It looks good though don’t it?”

Florida's depth chart looks better than ours to an incoming freshman, most likely. And it is much closer to home. And we still are in contention (some say we lead). Still looks good for us. At least until he announces for UF. Butch has quite some momentum out on the the trail and it doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon.
I think it would say a lot about CJM and his recruiting ability if he takes this kid without having a quarterback in place.

Congrats on the future pickup HG.

I won't count out CBJ until fax is in.

Still wondering what took Mac so long to decided Swain was worth the attention. He was all over Cleveland (Tx Wr) and Ridley..even took a commit from self proclaimed Gamecock fan living in Jax. over FS. All you can do is wonder.

It sounds a lot like some of recruiting habits of one Derek Dooley to be honest. He was clueless in recruiting players from his own state.

I like Freddie and think he's very talented. I just wonder who the staff has prioritized. We are in on so many REALLY good WR's.

Wouldn't go that far. I believe it has something to do with Mac's preference nfor bigger WR and Kenny Dixon connection with SoFla kids. We got in with Victor, Ridley and a few other bc of his work from stops at FAU and FIU.

Swain was always a local kid who most viewed as a Gator in the end. That gets tricky sometimes.

Like Swain's game no matter where he ends up. ( Exceptions being Athens and Tally-beat-aho).

I figured it would be pushing six-figures if not more. I had read Socha was making close to $110k when he was at AH Delray and STA takes football to another level. He's probably in that neighborhood at Oxbridge as well.
