'16 FL WR Latrell Williams (UT signee 2/3/16)

What is your problem? You do know some Wrs have better hands than others right? You do know some Wrs run routes better than others right? Some Wrs are faster than others right? Coaches evaluate and have priorities on these skill sets right? Am I not allowed to state my opinon? All I am saying is speed is 3rd on my list when evaluating a Wr. I am NOT SAYING Latrell does not do well at catching the ball or route running, only responding to "we need that kind of speed" statement because that is all I have heard about him.

I do not know if you or others misunderstood what I was saying or what, but it sure did not deserve a 5th grade type response!!

I for one totally get your point. Wes welker is an example of a wr you are talking about. A guy who can get open and catch everything is just so valuble. Speed is great but number one a and one b is getting open and catching the ball. Our wrs seem to have trouble getting seperation.

Lol. Ease up there bud. We're all mostly for the same team. I get what your saying. Route running even hands to some degree can be improved with coaching whereas speed is mostly there or it isn't. You can argue that speed is the least important attribute but if a wr isnt quick enough to beat coverage what difference does his route running and hands make?

Speed gets you separation when running deep route (if strong enough to beat press coverage), but it is about technique using body and sometimes size to get separation.

Your response came across childish, but I have calmed down now.:) :hi:

what does it matter if he is open ten yards from the nearest defender if he can't come down with the ball? hands, hands, hands.

and Larry Fitzgerald still has a job why? not trying to get in an NFL naming contest, I will lose, but your "go to" WR isn't necesarily going to be the fastest or the best route runner, he is the guy you know is going to come down with the ball in his hands. that is what UT has missed.

I think Preston Williams is going to be a good one

Fitz is a lot faster than he gets credit for.

"Finally, don't completely count out Latrell Williams. There's still some worry out of South Beach that the Vols are still very much in play there. It's not clear how exactly Tennessee would include him in this class if they land three of the players mentioned above, but we believe this one is in play heading into tomorrow and at least something to monitor until someone receives his LOI."

I'd guess he's 5th on the list of takes:
Warrior
Byrd
Brown (I guess Clark & Daniels fit here too)
Kongbo
Williams
Moss
Bailey

Take 3 unless all 4 of top 4 want in.

After seeing what the cane board did to Byrd, if Butch can make it work I'd like to see this kid a Vol as well. 5WRs might be a waste, but being a cane more so.

He's the classic example of a football speed guy. He may not test out as elite in a spandex-40-yard-dash setting, but once the pads are on his speed is more than enough.

He also runs excellent routes and reads coverages well so he is open quite a bit.

He's good at fighting off initial contact within 5 yards at LOS to get that initial burst that many WRs struggle with.

Been a pleasure to watch him play the past few years.
