I don't know the validity of this story. Again! I'm just detailing what was being alluded to. I have no idea where he is going at this point. Pretty sure nowhere in my posts today I claimed he was going to UGA. I simply hate what Auburn has systematically done through Bobby Lowder for the last three plus decades and they never get punished for it. Your inability to accept The Auburn pay for play scheme is what needs to be "gotten over".
I don't blame Au.It's the only way they could ever get anyone to agree to live in that arm pit of the world place.

Stories like this come up every year, like clockwork. Some player a team really wants and seems to be in good shape with and suddenly he ends up somewhere else. Naturally, he must have been paid.

The realistic part is that 99% of these stories are made up fiction from someone with too much time and an axe to grind.

To my knowledge, the only one of these stories that has ever been somewhat proven to be true was the Albert Means story out of Memphis. I know Bama ended up being punished for it, but I still find parts of that story inplausible.

You obviously aren't friends with someone who played SEC ball in the 80s. Paying players was common practice. UGA was guilty as hell in the early 80s. Herschel Walker and the Trans Am? jan Kemp killed that.

Iam sure all Sec teams have. But we pail in comparison to the old SW conference. Some of those people should be locked up.

I know this was said in jest, but, the interwebz is full of exact amounts. (They are getting nuked left and right). Websites deleted a bunch of threads today. I thought the number was low tbh. BUT, the number matches this. You would think they would consider cost of living has risen lol.

This is an excerpt of an interview Terry Bowden gave a few years ago about his time as HC at AU:
One week on the job, Hall came in with a ledger of players who have been paid, who paid the money, how much money and when it was paid. He said we’ve still got 9-12 players that we’re paying $600 per month.
We paid then $12,000-$15,000 to sign. We sign about four every year that we pay.(Former assistant coach Rodney) Garner paid most of the players. He was paid when he was a player at Auburn.(Stacey) Danley is the assistant compliance guy, and he was paid when he was a player. I broke the rules. I said pay it off, and it will never happen again.
Hall said “OK, but you will change your mind.” Katherine came to Auburn as
my assistant, but she worked for Colonial. We were real close. I told
Lowder “We have cash all over.” Lowder said “I told Wayne not to collect more than we had to have to pay the players.” Wayne had a safe in his house wherehe kept the money. Within two weeks of me being hired they told me about paying Jelks.
Nothing was done without Lowder knowing. I will go under oath
and say that Lowder looked me in the eyes and said, “I didn’t want Wayne to collect more money than we needed to pay the players.” I was hiding a dirty secret. We were paying (star running back and current Washington Redskin) Steve Davis and his cousin the fullback.
guys we were paying weren’t any good and weren’t helping us win games. Steve Davis was the exception.

HERE IS HOW IT WORKS fifty to 60 men give $5,000 per year. Wayne would collect it. These are all good men. They didn’t ask questions. The coach tells them that everybody cheats so we have to. My first two years we went 11-0 and 9-0-1.
My third year, (assistants Jimbo) Fisher and (Rick) Trickett said, “Hall is on the phone a lot with Lowder.” I thought he was going back to cheating. I told Hall that when the season was over he needed to move on.
I told Garner that I was taking him off coaching for a year. That was the beginning of the end for me. Jimmy Rane was in on all of this. He is high maintenance. Three current Board of Trustees members gave cash to players - Rane, Spina and McWhorter.

And once again we have proof UGA posters are the worst

Yep they refuse to realize they lost Brown the moment they fired Richt and even then I questioned whether or not Auburn was the real leader. Then Auburn lost Muschaml and I immediately loved our chances with final visit

$12,000? What year do you think this is? Kids are trying to cop the new Challenger not buy a nice spell of land out in yonder Nevada territory.

I have zero care what you think about me. I come here for y'all's perspective, which is frequently hilarious and myopic.

Yours and D4H particularly. Yall are yin and yang and should perhaps get married. You think I'm the worst bc you focus on the negative. I confirmed you shouldn't worry about Warrior and got no attaboys. Any negative news and it's Go time to attack a poster on here. And team affiliation doesn't matter. You attack Vols as readily as others.

which is a shame because I have witnessed folks with good info leave because it was unpopular. True, but unpopular.

As we outlined in our threads this week, we believe this has turned into a two-team battle for Brown with Auburn and Tennessee both in the mix. With Georgia, we know the Bulldogs have told several people they don't believe they will be the destination.

In talking to several on the Plains there is still some confidence heading into the weekend, but Auburn knows it's a tall order to come out of this weekend and still lead. The Vols have impressed Brown every time he's been on campus and that will likely happen once again.

You can't discount Rodney Garner and his pull for the Tigers. We've seen him time and time again come in at the last minute and land a top defensive lineman, but the Vols have the last visit. Needless to say, we don't believe a final decision has been made.

I mean, I'll give credit where it's due, my hatred of uga not withstanding. What did the guy say that was so offensive? Looked to me like he was just bringing some information.

Auburn has been dirty since the Pat Dye days, and it has never changed. I'm not going to join you on the black helicopter in reference to Derrick Brown, simply because it's hearsay from anonymous message board posters. But if anyone has any doubt that Auburn's 2010 title wasn't bought and paid for, i have some magic beans to sell. It's also no coincidence they brought in NCAA former watchdog Dave Didion to be their compliance director. Can you say collusion?

Problem is the first go around you came in like a pompous asshat which is why you are probably getting residual attacks this evening. The ellis guy you are replying to is one of those anonymous insiders looking for e-cred you were referring to earlier in this thread. Problem is his story unraveled and now he wants to whine about the poor treatment he is receiving on a message board. You put yourself out there and get exposed expect some heat to come your way. No reason to act like a wuss and play the victim card.

You realize the truth from the past but don't want to apply it to the future ? I'm not saying that Brown is going to Ut or Auburn. I just know what happens at Auburn for the past forty years bc I know people involved. It never stopped. You have to be special . Not all players receive regular cash, but that is part of their problem and has always been that some players are viewed as on a pedestal

If you were able to go back and reread that, my pomposity would be exaggerated. I was similarly relaying info I had and was then attacked by posters who didn't like the info which was the deleted by someone. Like 8 pages worth. I didn't start off as pompous, but when someone calls me a jacka$$,etc. I'm not going to sit back and take it.

Brown's recruitment definitely has a different feel than all the other remaining targets. You get the sense that he's genuinely undecided. Don't think a single national analyst has ever put us in "the lead" and some have considered us a long-shot at best, but Brown just talks about Tennessee differently than all the other schools.

I've thought for a long-time that Brown was our most likely "signing day surprise." Hope that ends up coming true. We certainly have a much greater chance than most are giving us credit for.
