I think that Philips could overtake Vereen over the offseason. We are going to have a sick 2-deep no doubt though.

Butcher, Lewis, Vickers and O'Brien aren't bad depth to add to that mix, either.

Not that I'm advocating they should be in the two deep or are as good as the aforementioned, but if something bad were to happen, those guys aren't terrible replacements and three of them have meaningful game experience. Next year's DL is gonna be goooood.

Why? Vereen has been playing awesome.

He has played awesome and he is quite talented, I believe that Philips will prove to be even more talented though after he has his first off season under his belt.

Vereen is a fantastic, SEC level player, but he was Maggit's backup for a reason. He wasn't as good as Maggit. I think he won't be quite as good as Philips either.

Phillips has had an off season under his belt. He was an EE, Knuckle head.

True, but I don't believe that someone that has hardly removed themselves from Highschool gets as much from an offseason as someone that has made it through a season. It gives them greater perspective.

I should have made that clear though in my original post though.

Being an EE is definitely an advantage but I have to believe it's not the same as a full, on campus, off season and all that goes along with it..

You're still a knuckle head.

Didn't mean to come off as aggressive.

Just expanding on what you mentioned as the problem.
I didn't take it that way (aggressive). You're right, he's ultimately responsible for recruiting a QB for his system. Sometimes these guru coaches think their success is all their system and they can plug any half good player in and it works. Their arrogance gets them.

Just as good of a shot as any. Having the last visit is huge. DL will be nasty next year

This is some funny sh!+ on 247. Comments from 2 Georgia fans in the Derrick Brown article. BIGWIN said... (original post)

1st poster:
Tenn or Bama here. Butch can sell ice to an Eskimo. We have twice the talent he does but he is trying hard. A couple of years and they will be a force.
We didn't get it done during the dreadful East years. Doesnt look good with Florida and Tenn on the come up.

2nd poster:
They have both passed UGA. UGA is now 4-5th best in the east. Not good

Imagine this D-line rotation.

DE - Derrick Barnett/Kyle Phillips
DT - Shy Tuttle/Alexis Johnson
DT - Kahlil McKenzie/Derrick Brown
DE - Corey Vereen/Darrell Taylor

Talk about sick. That's 4 five star caliber DTs. And with Vereen's emergence, 4 sick pass rushing ends. Our D-line could be what Bama's is this season. DOMINANT.

Forgetting Quay

Based off what, recruiting rankings?

Vereen's on field production the last two weeks has been unbelievable. If he plays like that for the rest of the season, no way he is losing his spot next year.

I agree. It took a few weeks, but he is now playing every bit as good as Maggitt. I may get blasted for that, but the past two weeks he has. JMO.

His pass rush has certainly been welcomed. It's hard to replace a Curt Maggitt from a pure leadership standpoint, but on pure production, you can't say a bad thing about Vereen these last couple of weeks.
