I get what you're saying. But:

1. Kyle Phillips will not be a True Freshman like DK.
2. Jumper was only starting because he knew the calls.
3. Kyle Phillips is not Colton Jumper.

True, but right now, we don't know if he is better in game than Vereen either. Good problem to have IMO. If Vereen continues playing the way he has lately and Phillips is everything we expect him to be.......we're going to have a damn good back-up either way.

Kirkland still made more plays early on than Jumper. Just off instincts.

Yep, because he was/is the more inherently talented player.

What if Kyle Phillips is inherently just better than Corey Vereen? We going to sit him just because they older guy had a really good season the year prior?

Can't bench Vereen right now. Dude is playing at a very high level.

Agreed. That's why it's all speculation at this point

Vereen is playing at an extremely high level right now.

Yep, and I can't imagine the coaches making a change this year.

Say Vereen finishes with a major flurry and racks up 10 sacks. Great season.

What if coming out of fall practice the coaches say:

Corey's great, we think he can get us another 10 this year if we start him.
But Kyle is on another level, we think he can get us 15 if we start him.

What should they do?

Agreed, he should definitely finish out the season and post season as our starter. I just think there will be a nice competition for that spot over the offseason.

From watching him in the highschool all America game and reports from fall camp-- I believe-- Philips has a rarely seen first step. I think a year of learning his duties and physically developing will have him poised to start.

You're overthinking this.

Haha. No, not really.

All I'm saying is what if Kyle Phillips is just better.

Play your best players, regardless.

Simple as that.

I agree with this. Either way we are going to have a hell of a back-up, and that's only talking about two of our DE's.

Corey Vereen, second team All-SEC potential or am I getting ahead of myself?

No you're not, dude is dominating right now. I hear the Phillips is special talk but he has to dominate in a game to overtake him. Vereen just destroyed Cam Robinson of Alabama. One of the premier tackles so to speak. He's playing with a lot of confidence and savvy.

His first step is stupid fast right now.

UTsports says 5, but I could've sworn he got 2 in the UK game and had 4 going into that game.

Pretty sure the announcers commented that he had gotten 2 during the UK game. Also, not so sure, but think they also said he had three before that game.

You guys are arguing over the stupidest thing. Both will play. The better guy will get more snaps. Remember that Shy was never listed as a starter this year but he got a majority of the snaps at DT against Georgia and Arkansas.

The best guy will play more snaps.

Only on VolNation where you'll have two people arguing over a certain topic in a thread that has nothing to do with it.

He had a 2nd during the UK game but UK had a 15 yard penalty so it nullified the sack.
