“Coach Azzanni, I like coach Azzanni. I like him a lot,” said Callaway, who also saw Azzanni on Thursday. “Today, they talked about how they were going to use me. They showed us the different types of routes that I’ll be running. They said it was the same. He put my highlights up. He showed me how they do short routes and he showed me the different levels of college, high school and pros. He just showed me different ways. It’s the same thing, just better.”

A Top247 prospect who’s one of Tennessee’s longtime top wide-receiver targets, Callaway has been high on the Vols for months, and they still appear to be one of the teams to beat — if not the favorite to land him — after his official visit to Tennessee over the weekend. He’s still scheduled to visit Mississippi State and Ole Miss the next two weekends, but Tennessee undoubtedly improved its chances with Callaway on his official visit to Knoxville. Ole Miss seems to be the biggest threat, but the Vols have some momentum at this point.

Working theory....

Butch only allows one Marquez/Marques on the team at a time. Follow me here:

North has been on the team the last three years.

Last year Ford commits. Butch tries to fight his inner compulsions to allow Ford to come. But ultimately he gives Ford his gitshirt.

This year, early reports are that Callaway likes us and is close to committing. But then almost drops off the face of the vol-related earth for a few months.

Then there talk is he may head to one of the Mississippi schools.

Then it comes out that North is likely gone and not enrolled in classes.

Next thing ya know, Marquez is back on the Butch train headed towards being a Vol on NSD.

If so, I guess we are 'Quezed up for the next four years or so.

Believe so. He's listed as an athlete and I thought we were pursuing him more as a WR, but it looks like he played CB at the AA game. Maybe explains why he hung out with Cam on his trip. I'd still like to have him as a WR, though.

No. Mecole wanted to play CB (probably wants to play both ways but a lot of talk about corner), but after a poor performance at the AA game practice, he was switched to WR where he is much better at this point.
