'16 JUCO CB Desmond Henderson (UT commit 9/17/15)

Probably not. But there is a chance. Almost all the guys I mentioned would be 3 year starters. If we win the SEC title and make the playoff, their stock would skyrocket like Ohio State guys this year.

I think Barnett and Hurd are definites when it comes to leaving early. Both would probably go in the first round next year if they were eligible.

Being a 3 year starter on an average to below average team isn't justification to declare early and be drafted by the NFL...it only shows the lack of quality depth in the program.

Barnett might be a 1st rounder but a lot would depend on his combine numbers. Those NFL guys draft on what they perceive as potential, not on college production.

Last few years there's only been 1 or maybe 2 RB's drafted in the 1st round. Right now, just out of the SEC Fornette and Chubb would go higher again unless Hurd could produce some crazy good combine numbers. VN can continue to point to a supposed 4.3 40 he ran sometime in the past, but I've not seen it in pads as he doesn't run away from DB's when he brakes through the front 7. Based on what he's done up to right now, I'd guess a 3rd or 4th rounder as he's got good size, runs hard, and blocks well. Hopefully he can reproduce a sub 4.4 40 at the combine and that will improve his stock.

If all these players were SOOO talented, why isn't the team more impressive? I think you seriously overvalue the UT players.

They were true freshmen last year playing in the most competitive conference in America and they're now sophmores playing the 4th game of their second season.

You might want to wait until they finish their 2nd season before dismissing their potential.

You might want to wait until they finish their 2nd season before you proclaim them definite 1st rounders :p

I've only proclaimed Derek Barnett and Jalen Hurd 1st rounders. And I believe most neutral fans would agree.

Barnett - Yes, I agree.
Hurd - Sadly, probably not.

In the past 5 NFL Drafts, you know how many RB's have been drafted in the 1st round? 6. Total. And two of those years, none were drafted in the 1st round. If he came out at the same time as Henry, Chubb, Fournette, Dalvin Cook, Samaje Perine, & Royce Freeman, there's no guarantee he goes in the first couple rounds. The value for RB's just isn't as high anymore in the NFL.

I think we are seeing a renaissance of RB's in the college game. Will be interesting to see where these guys get drafted.

Ever hear of Matt Forte?

Haven't hear of him but I have hurd of him. :) Forte is 2 inches shorter and 20 pounds lighter. I do agree he would be a helluva pass blocker though.

I'll be very excited to see how he performs in the nfl

Not many 6'4 240 lb running backs who can run, catch, and block like Hurd can. He will go high, however I worry he will get lost in the shuffle if he declares after his junior year. Chubb, Fournette, Perine, D. Cook (FSU), R. Freeman (Ore) and Hurd all look to be the cream of the crop in a VERY strong running back class. If Ezekiel Elliot, Perkins (UCLA) & Derrick Henry for some reason dont declare after this year, then it screws Hurd's chances even more.

I'd honestly be surprised if Hurd goes pro after his junior year.

Fine by me. I can't wait to see Hurd behind a real OL. Hope 2016 we can get some better play there.

Same here. Man I hate our offense lol

Come on Catbone. Leave this thread alone.

Question for you guys... when Hurd runs to the edge, a lot of times he sort of trots for a bit and then accelerates up field. I'm assuming he is waiting for his blocking to set up. But it seems like this is also allowing the defense chasing from the backside to catch up. I wonder if this is why he never breaks the long runs vs say Kamara.

Didn't Hurd break a 40+ yarder? Kamara has one 60 yarder so I don't see a disparity...300 yards is 300 yards.

He's picking, which is what good RBs do. He let's the play develop very well now.
