'16 JUCO CB Desmond Henderson (UT commit 9/17/15)

Malone needs to stop dropping/almost dropping 50% of the passes going his way before anyone should talk about him leaving for the NFL early...

Malone is Robert Meacham 2.0. He's got the size/speed ratio scouts love. He'll probably lead the team in catches the next 2 years. Big performances in big games will lead his stock to skyrocket.

Look no further than Ohio State receiver Michael Thomas. Similar size/speed to Malone. Had some big catches in the playoff last year and is now the projected 1st receiver taken in the 2016 draft.

Come on man. I love UT Football, but I think you left these on when you were typing. No WAY all of those guys leave early.

Last year, the schools with the most players declare early for the draft were- Florida (4), USC (4), Bama (3), LSU (3), and Penn State (3). No other school had more than 2.

Reading comprehension fail. I guess you forgot the word COULD. Obviously I don't think all of them will. As of right now only Hurd and Barnett have the credentials. However I listed those guys because I think they have the ABILITY. Now it would obviously take us winning the SEC and making the playoffs in 2016.

Also last year was an aberration when it came to guys declaring early. The 2012 high school class was weak compared to 2013 and 2014. Expect a lot more early departures this year. Ohio State could have 7-8 guys declare early. They win the national title last year with a team of sophomores. All those guys will gone after this year.

The "still young/depth" excuse will always be there. It's his crutch

I hate it when people say things like this without substantiating the point. I think at this point it is still provably true, and we have no idea what CBJ will say when it is no longer true. If he still says stuff like this when a big chunk of our two-deep wasn't in HS last year, then yes, I agree with the sentiment.

I think you and a lot of others are underestimating what CBJ is doing here. He's building a winning culture, but he is also really pushing academics and the importance of a degree. These players especially are the ones that will known as the enforcers that brought Tennessee back and they won't leave until it's done. Another thing to consider is players don't leave early a lot in college football.

From SI.com:

NFL's problem with underclassmen declaring for draft is getting bigger | The MMQB with Peter King

After having an average of 50.1 players declare for the draft from ’05 to ’11, the number has basically doubled under the new CBA: from 56 in ’11 to 65 in ’12, 73 in ’13 and 98 this year. As of right now, about 250 players will be selected in the NFL draft. You do the math.

We could lose Barnett, Hurd, Kamara, Malone, Wolf, Martin, Moseley, and TK after 2016. All have 1st-2nd round talent. Also Dobbs, North, and JRM would be graduating.

2017 could be a rebuilding year if the team is wildly successful in 2016 and all those guys leave.

I see half of that list leaving at most. As of now I doubt Wolf, Moseley, Martin and Malone leave early. JMO.

Barnett, JRM, and Hurd will be hard the hardest to replace in 2017

How many freshman saw meaningful snaps offensively last Saturday?

Jennings and...?

Ok, if we wanna play the could game, then we COULD lose 42 scholarship-roster players. I think you're right about Hurd/Barnett. But there's plenty of guys on this roster that have the ABILITY to play in the NFL. That doesn't mean they're likely to leave early. We don't have the offense to feature guys like Malone or Wolf enough to warrant big NFL buzz, and Moseley & Martin haven't proven anything yet. All that to say, if them possibly leaving early means we made the playoff next year, I'd be fine with that. :eek:k:

No clue, but I think that is beside the point. As long as our two deep is generally younger than the other teams in CFB, it's not an irrelevant point for the coach to make. If he's still saying stuff like that when that is no longer true, then yes, it is a crutch...or worse.

My point is the same one I've continually made: our two top five classes do not put is on the same level as a team that had two top five classes two years before us.

You talking about OU? Might wanna double check if so. They weren't a better team than us.

Martin checks all the boxes. If he has a good year in 2016, he'll be gone. There aren't many 6'2" corners with 4.3 speed. He's got traits that can't be taught. Wolf and Moseley are the least likely.

Now you're getting a bit out of control. Won't have that much attrition to the draft.

It would never happen, but taking away early entry would be great for college football

Why? It started with the Barry Sanders class and it's not a major talent drain. Seems about perfect (as well as fair ). among the leagues. :hmm:

I'm not a fan of making a young man wait if an employer is offering millions of dollars. He'll never get a job making that amount of money at the same age.

Ding ding ding!

The point of college is to prepare you for a career. If someone is willing to pay you millions after your junior year, no one should stand in your way
