I actually think this is a good fit for him. He reminds me a bit of that Zadarius Smith kid (another JUCO) they got in 2013. We'd had interest in him, but ultimately took some higher ranked DEs.


He had a pretty good career at UK under Stoops and ended up a 4th round pick. I could see a similar outcome for Bonner. He has upside, but he probably wouldn't see too much playing time here.

Coming out of JUCO, smith was around 225.

Edit: nix that, I checked and he was 225 coming out of HS, not JUCO. My bad, yo.

We sure need the help at DE, or heck, ALL the front 7. I honestly didn't know much about him til he committed but he has some potential. Don't know if he's as certain an impact player as Smith was coming into UK, but he could be fighting for immediate action.

But back to Bonner, I think he'll be a solid contributor for UK by the end of his career. But IMO he'll need a year to develop. Probably the reason we wouldn't take him.
