'16 KS DT Alexis Johnson (UT commit 6/16/15)

Danny O quietly saved our season last year IMO. Patton Robinette was inches away from breaking a long run on Vandy's last possession and Danny O tripped him up for a loss. It was a shoestring tackle.

I'll go with Hurd on the screen vs SC

The entire USC game to be honest. But yeah, that last drive against Vandy was heart stopping considering what Robinette had done just one year prior. I was in the stadium and about to stroke out.

Bob Welton is director of player personnel and Bob Merritt is director of recruiting. But yes, basically scouting and identifying talent early. They are both ex-NFL guys and are great at identifying talent. They are a big reason why we get in early on players early. The "Bob's", and their team, watch film and identify players early that Merritt and Welton then approve send to Butch for his evaluation. This system has been working great so far and they are talented men.

Did the Bobs come with Butch from Cincy or were they here when he got here or were they added once he got here?

More impressive? That comeback vs SC or this years Georgia?

USC for me. Down 14 with 5 minutes to go. On the road in a city not named Lexington or Nashville. No true road wins outside those cities since 2007. We score to make it 42-35 and USC only needs a first down to ice it and they had been averaging something like 9 yards per play that night.

Ridiculous set of circumstances required to pull out the W in Columbia.

At least with UGA there was plenty of time to mount the comeback and 14 of their points came off of flukey plays. It wasn't like they were dominating us to be up 24-3.

What exactly does he do again? Scout?

He and his team identify the diamonds in the rough early on, allowing Butch & Company to get a head start on recruiting said gems.

They also provide key evals on most of the players we take.

They are former NFL Scouts, who now scout for The University of Tennessee.

Love it.

Did he have a previous relationship with them?

Welton was hired in 2013 from the Browns, I think there was some Haslem influence there. Merritt was added this year from the Texans but not sure how that one came about. RTI had an article on them earlier this year but I can't find it. Maybe someone can find that for us who is a little better at that or remembers where it was.

Key recruit as Turttle may not be 100% at the start of next season

??? U guessing or do you have actual info? Broken bones and ankle ligament years don't take that long to recover from. Laquon Treadwell had a worse injury about the same time as Shy last year and he was full go to start fall camp.

Thanks CWG. I bet you're right that Haslem may have facilitated that move.

there's a lot more man on top of that injury, and he is having to push against equally large men. lots of force on it.

Hes guessing, I googled his injury. The average recovery time is around 2 months. So unless there's a complication he should be back for spring practice, probably in a green jersey though.
